La botta grossa - Storie da dietro il terremoto

The 30th of October 2016 an earthquake hits Central Italy. It is the strongest earthquake registered in Italy in the last 40 years: a magnitude 6,5 with epicentre in between Perugia (Umbria) and Macerata (Marche) devastates the whole area of the Sibillini mountains, where the director was born and grew up. Starting from his own demolished house and from his own pain, Baldoni takes a journey "from inside" the experience of the earthquake to tell the deep fears, the trauma, the anxiety, the rage and the hope of the people whom's life has been changed by these events.

Mumurations

MURMURATIONS (ROME) is a video that comments on history's ghostly spectre in the everyday. The video employs footage shot at two sites in Rome, Italy: MURMURATIONS (ROME) documents the act of walking through these historical sites as a means of critically reanimating their political and ideological significance today. Additionally, documentation of the intricately morphing formation of starlings in flight—called murmurations— that descend upon Rome in the evening, is presented along with excerpts from a poem by Pier Paolo Pasolini, 'Le Cenere di Gramsci' (1954). Commissioned by CIRCUIT - Artist Film & Video Aotearoa New Zealand with the assistance of Creative New Zealand for the Thick Cinema project curated by Mercedes Vicente

Ne avete di finocchi in casa?

In Italian cinema, the figure of the homosexual has always been presented as a stereotype and in a deliberately offensive way, as if the only way to treat a subject that was to all intents and purposes a taboo was through parody or mockery. But it was in the cinema of the 70s, in all its various film types, from sexy comedies to detective stories, that we find gay characters constantly present in films, almost obsessively. Unfortunately, they were the butt of coarse, trivialising humour, which reflected the backward social attitudes and homophobia of the time. To understand the causes of this phenomenon, Andrea Meroni, a young director from Milan, met the leading actors and directors of that time (e.g. Lino Banfi, Enrico Vanzina and Leo Gullotta), as well as experts, critics and activists of the LGBTQI movement. The result? A surprisingly ironic documentary that talks about the way we were when we were 'froci' (fags).

What WEEE Are

Planting the Seeds, growing the future. Technology pervades every aspect of our lives: the way we move... the way we work... the way we meet and communicate… how we make love and what we eat... Crops all over the world are grown using increasingly technological methods. It is now possible to grow plants at night and in hostile environments, increasing yields and saving water. Most of these methods are based on... Hydroponics. Since the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the seven Wonders of the Ancient World, technology has allowed man to grow great amounts of food. Abundance of food allows man to explore new frontiers... In January 2016 the first flower has blossomed aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Yet, in pursuing his quest, man also generates huge amounts of increasingly technological waste... Space Waste is already an issue of cosmic concern...

Every Soul of my Body

After the passing of her mother, Lorena finds the diary that she kept all her life. The entries allow her to discover a different woman. Having grown up in the worship of her father who fought as a partisan during the war, Lorena realises that she must start digging in the secret story of her mother if she wants to understand aspects of her own life. The pages of the diary feel like a book from another time. Working as a nurse, her mother was covertly working for the partisans passing them intelligence that she astutely acquired from wounded German soldiers by administering more morphine than usually required to ease the pain.
