A brutal attack on the homeless Lennard in downtown Frankfurt links the fate of three women: Irina, a 28-year-old nurse, has witnessed the violence. The young Sam lives on the street. She was protected by Lennard after she was beaten up in search of food. The single mother Anne is from the clouds when her 18-year-old son Rio is led away by the police. He is accused of involvement in the violence against Lennard. This is hard to understand for Anne; she struggles to get her son to talk.

What does it mean to live in a neighborhood? What does the place where you live mean to you? Who lives next-door? In the summer of 2017, 140 people who live on and around Rosa-Luxemburg Platz in Berlin's 'Mitte' district were interviewed. These conversations were turned into a series of short films that provide personal insights into diverse lives. Behind each door there's a different story: long-standing Mitte dwellers, founders of start-ups, centenarians, globetrotters, those pining for the old East Germany, and students. There are people who have lived here for two months or sixty years; people who grew up in what used to be East or West Germany, in Latin America, Russia, or former Yugoslavia. A neighborhood full of diversity and contradictions. Some call it their home, others just the place they live, while still others think of it as a real neighborhood or 'kiez'. And yet, memories and emotions associated with this place connect them all as neighbors.

Strongly acted, charmingly cheeky character comedy with a gentle culture clash note. After a boat accident, seaman Kurt (Hans-Uwe Bauer) needs short-term support in everyday life. A mammoth task, since no one can cope with the difficult patient. Private detective Josef Matula is with his usual companion, the dog Dr. med. Renz, on the way to Italy, when his rickety minibus engine fails. During his subsequent unplanned stay in a small mountain village he discovers the body of a mountaineer while hiking. He begins to investigate the death and by the look of it, it could be either accident, suicide or even a murder. However, the conspiratorial community is not very enthusiastic about his investigations and when he comes close to solving the case, his own life is in danger too.

The news of his daughter Emma's disappearance sets Benno Winkler off on a journey that puts his convictions and ideals to the test and shakes them to the core. His daughter Emma's passport has been found on the Turkish-Syrian border and there is no trace of her. Benno learns that his daughter and her boyfriend Max have made their way to Syria in order to smuggle the family of a Syrian student into Germany.

As this trick quickly makes her rich, the film observes people and places in Zurich, all mysteriously connected to Alice’s business.

Steffen and Lennart wake up after a long party night. Having a bad hangover they accidental kill one of the other party guests. In a series of vignettes we get to know several people who are all involved in the situation. A film about the fact that, we often expect more of others than of ourselves and how difficult it is to accept that we are responsible for our actions.

Germany, 1971: Erika (Anna Schudt) is actually completely overwhelmed by her work in the butchery of husband Kurt (Christian Erdmann), the education of three common children and additional obligations, which brings the village life, as her doctor also revealed that she is pregnant again. Another baby is the last thing she needs now, and so she decides to drive to her sister Charlotte (Alwara Höfels) to Cologne and let the baby abortively secretly abort. Since there are complications during the surgery and Erika can only be rescued, but her husband still learns from the matter. It comes to a huge dispute, in which another topic is the future of daughter Ulrike (Lene Oderich). Without further ado Erika then packs her things and moves with her children to Charlotte. But at a time when legislation inevitably makes her dependent on her husband, she is denied a self-determined new beginning. Erika decides to do something to change that ..

After the death of her father Georg Inga Hauck drives together with her son Max in their home village. In her old home she meets Anna Kertesz. Inga's parents had taken Anna 28 years ago after her adult brother Zoltan mysteriously disappeared. Since the same day also Ingas was missing then six-year-old brother Magnus. Inga is being overtaken by her past in her parents' house. Soon her nerves are bare. And every day her memories come back.

Ella has been living in her apartment in the city center for more than 40 years. Due to the massively increasing price of rent, she is forced to move out soon and to give away most of her beloved pieces of furniture. Even the ones, she restored by herself. When the new tenants of her apartment stop by to pick and choose which of her valuables they would like to keep, Ella realizes that her time in this apartment is coming to an end.

This 18-minute short film plays out like a series of vignettes looking into the lives of some seriously fucked up people, as they slice, dice and torture innocent people brutally, with each vignette having seemingly no connection to the last.

After 40 years of marriage, Eva's grandma Lotti has had enough. She's seriously thinking about splitting up and moving out. Eva, hoping to prevent the geriatric meltdown, cancels her planned vacation with her boyfriend Johannes and spirits Lotti off to Lake Garda in Italy, where granny has always longed to go. And where, Tobias, Eva's new flame, is also bound. Instead of bringing granny to her senses, Eva ends up turning her own life upside down. Johannes or Tobias? Security or excitement? It's a tough choice. Maybe she could ask her grandma for advice, if Lotti wasn't so involved with her own emotional chaos.

Roy and Bruno Singer are a father and son team that couldn't be more different. While the thoroughbred musician Roy earns his money in Berlin with business that is not always legal, Bruno works for the Hamburg police. His dream is to join the homicide squad and win the heart of his colleague Kyra Sperling. His boss Tamara Rosenberg strongly advises him to stay away from his father, who is on the record.

One month after it happened Alex and Anna meet again on the rooftop. Alex tries to help Anna let go of her grief but the memories of this place are too painful.
