Angie's teenage sister Kiki is also finding life tough-going. Due to her epilepsy, her mother Monika insists that she wears a freaky protective helmet. The Long Summer of Theory

"What is to be done?" three women with artistic and creative professions in temporary living conditions are wondering. They are sharing a flat in an old building close to Berlin Central Station. The area is one of the city's last remaining gaps between buildings. They decide to end their flat share as soon as the first trenches will be dug. With mixed feelings they are heading towards the time when their spontaneous life comes to an end, which means they have to make one or more (life) decisions eventually. The current flat is a symbol for their own life scripts so far: unformed and all bets are off but it already starts to be uncomfortable. They spend the remaining days in their flat with friends, celebrations, discussions and the strong feeling for the dawning of a new era.

Dr. Robert Siedler is an experienced forensic psychologist who is asked to prepare an expert opinion for the mentally disturbed ex-alcoholic Friedhelm Knecht, who has been in custody for a long time. According to his expert assessment, he is in favor of releasing the offender, whereupon Knecht is released from prison. Shortly afterwards, however, there is a murder in which the evidence points to Knecht as the perpetrator. The suspect goes on the run and when the case causes a stir in the press, Robert is quickly found to be the scapegoat and blamed for the murder. Robert himself is shocked: has he misjudged a case for the first time? Or was his expert opinion justified and is Knecht innocent?
