A humble noodle-maker in a remote Chinese province, Ermo feels that she's being taken for granted by family and friends. She decides the best way to impress them is to bring home the biggest, most expensive television set she can find - no matter how many noodles she has to peddle.

Fortunately, he encountered a nice girl called Luk Wan. She took him to her home for a temporary accommodation. At the same time, his TV-set was sent to the same village of Luk Wan. Hilarity ensues.

In 1997, documentary filmmaker Chen Xiaoqing (A Bite of China) went to Changtu. Three business owners with very different personalities and values caught his attention: Chang Xianshu, who trafficked in coal, Wang Nianzhong, who opened a food packing factory, and Chang Zhide, who ran a grain and oil business. He soon finds himself indulging in the same curiosity, eventually developing an obsession. Xiao Dou chooses to spend time reading letters instead of socializing with friends or coworkers. As he becomes increasingly tied to the letters, he begins to intervene in the lives of those who write and receive the letters.
