The Body is a Gesture

An AI computer-vision system reconstructs footage of humanity in different contexts - business, love, city, joy, protest. The next-frame-prediction technology is trying to predict the future based on just a couple of seconds from each clip, producing surprisingly hallucinatory video outputs, engaging with surrealist and expressionist painting tradition. The AI-produced material is arranged by the human artist in a narrative reflecting on the tenderness of the human body, the implications of AI interacting with it, and the politics of its usage. We are a viral breath, one embodiment, connected to each other physically, socially and psychologically. Now it's becoming mediated by machines, controlled by corporations and governments. The work explores senses of touch and body as seen by algorithmic processes.

Songs for the River

Over the course of a year, filmmaker Charlotte Ginsborg filmed the London housing co-operative that she lives in, looking to chart the residents’ diverse experiences of the pandemic, across the daily life of numerous national lockdowns. Some experienced the illness itself, while others faced the stress of work on the front line. Each Saturday, the residents came together to sing with each other from their communal balconies and walkways, and these songs permeate throughout the film. Increasingly frustrated by the government, residents experienced an emotional rollercoaster that is reflected in a film wherein the personal and political interweave, to create an intimate and moving portrait of a unique community during an extraordinary time.

Events however, slowly disintegrate this desire and push the character to a crossroads of life and death, between two openly excluding world views.

In The Devil's Kitchen

Mouth, anus, sphincters, round muscles closing our holes, the opening and the closing of the world, attack cleanly (teeth, lips, the muscled mouth) and finish cleanly ( cut off the air). Stop cleanly. Chew and eat the text. A blind spectator should be able to hear it crunched and swallowing. Mastication, sucking, swallowing. Pieces of text must be bitten off, viciously attacked by the female eaters ( lips, teeth); other pieces must be quickly gulped down, swallowed, gobbled up, breathed in, guzzled. Eat, gulp, eat, chew, dry lung, chew, masticate, cannibal!

Fraude alimentaire, un crime organisé ?

All food can be adulterated. More discreet than a drug cartel, more elusive than arms dealers, criminals have taken over food. Olive oil, fish, meat, spices, no department escapes their juicy traffic. A jackpot estimated in Europe at 30 billion euros enriches a new kind of mafia every year. Organized crime is selling altered products in restaurants, supermarkets and all food shops in the European Union. Their secret is to replace an ingredient with a cheaper one. Who are these new traffickers? What are their methods of operation?

The Fire of Antifer (Materials for a Film in Progress)

In the beginning, Elisabeth picked yellow flowers. On the green hill, facing the sea, between a bunker, the glare of the sun, and the radiation from the wars in progress. In these times of confinement we film an hour a day, less than a kilometer away. It's a very old desire to film from home. The flowers, a radioactive yellow, evaporate in the light. And all around, the playful insects vibrate tirelessly. In this landscape under surveillance, there is Paul, an ancient Newfoundlander, struck down by the world to come. Has he left ? Has he disappeared? His dog prowls along the cliffs, between Fécamp and Yport. The sea turns red, we fall into the night.
