Experienced detective Lorenzo Brandoni is devastated after two personal catastrophes: his sister dies of cancer and his wife and son are killed in a car crash he’s mainly responsible for. In the heart of Navarra, in the Valdorba mountains, a small town survives depopulation by coping with everyday problems. A mare farmer, Jaime, has just acquired an animal with which he wants to breed and grow the herd, but shortly after the mare enters his stable, he falls ill with an infection in one of its legs that seems to be neither recent nor reversible.
