Welome, Back, Man

A man fills plastic bottles with messages for a loved one who has suddenly disappeared and pours them into a river. A girl cannot accept the death of her lover. An angel is right next to these people who are struggling to survive, almost crushed by a love that has nowhere to go. A plastic bottle delivery man. A guide to the passage between this world and the next. A rebirth witness. And a folk duo called the Vaudeville Duo. They deliver their miracles as unobtrusively, as small and shiny as a grain of light in the midwinter wind. What miracles are performed by angels in human form, riding around on bicycles, holding fishing rods or endlessly shirking?

Dear Dead Days

A pair of hitmen always bury the people they kill. But on their way home from work, they run over a kitten. A high school girl and her friend start digging a cat's grave in an empty lot. Meanwhile, in the park, a group of young lovers are worried about the disappearance of a cat with the strange name of "common sense and common sense of the street". A midsummer day called today lies between yesterday and tomorrow. The story is an omnibus of three stories about people who are a little bit different from each other. The stylish black-and-white imagery, like a, peek into the world of fables, is strangely matched by the droll dialogue. The smooth development from one episode to the next, and the urban sense of the three pairs of characters, two of whom seem unlikely to exist, shine through.

Let's Play Again Tomorrow

A boy has been aware of the presence of a girl beside him since he was a child. However, he does not know who she is. One day, a nuclear missile is accidentally launched at Japan. The children play innocently as if they have no idea of the fate that will happen in a few hours. Then the boy meets the girl again... The film tackles the heavy theme of nuclear fear, but instead of shouting hysterically against nuclear weapons as in previous works, it speaks poetically and dreamily. It is a requiem for children who have never known war to continue to be a generation that has never known war.

Manatsu

I want to help, I want to be saved, I want to help. One day during summer holiday, best friends Nemoto and Maruyama are walking along a mountain path when suddenly a gunshot rings out and Nemoto falls. Maruyama barely manages to hide behind a roadside block, but Nemoto is seriously injured and unable to move. At first Maruyama tries to help, but the persistent and invisible killer frightens him and he is unable to do anything about it. Root begins to blame him, and says that the killer is after you and that he is involved. Time ticks by as the truth remains elusive... The film depicts the human psyche, where friendship and conscience disappear and only egoism emerges as a result of the absurd horror, set only on an ordinary country road. A film that tackles drama head-on, in a world where many films are bland.

Hands

From the past to the future, from today to tomorrow, "hands" weave the fabric of human life and history. The hands of the young, the old, the men, the women, the hands of all generations, sometimes in everyday life, sometimes in extraordinary situations, are the focus of this film, which with its superb powers of observation vividly reveals the drama of human life and its vicissitudes hidden in everyday life. Like a game of cat's-paw, in which a thread is passed between fingers to form a shape, the filmmaker's ability to connect unconnected scenes to form a larger theme shines through.

Lacrime

Ikuko's mother died two years ago, and since graduating from high school she has devoted herself to housework as a housewife, cooking dinner and waiting for her father. Although she is no longer a child, she feels an irresistible sense of loneliness when she realises that her former boyfriends and friends have started to go their own ways. But this is her night alone. The light of the moon and the vision of her mother surround her gently as she weeps. The film looks at a woman, but without a story, carefully capturing the inner world of a girl with dense and beautiful images. The title "Lacrime" is Latin for "tears".

Big Stone and Small Night

“I created this film using my favourite motifs and techniques - the surface tension of water, the image of night and time permeating the stone, vertical movement in space, and action cutting to transcend distance. I took my time with it, like bonsai or gardening as a hobby. I repeatedly made and remade it, and there were parts I was still unsure of, but I presented it anyway a year later. That's when the filmmaker Kanai Katsu spotted it. I had an idea based on what he pointed out to me, so I remade that part and the work took its final form. Maybe because I enjoyed making it, I'm fond of this work.” (Isao Kota)

萎れかけた春のために

A lonely man cries, a lonely woman laughs. A young salaryman is fed up with the mundane but secure life he leads and goes AWOL from work. On a whim, he calls Noriko, a woman he once played with, and goes to take care of her in bed with a cold. Noriko is cheerful and innocent, and he begins to tell her about his daily frustrations and his dissatisfaction with society, which he has not even told his wife... Director Sugiura has put a lot of effort into creating appealing characters in this film. The film uses elaborate dialogue and UFO catchers to portray the sense of discomfort that most people today feel at one time or another, that even if they have no clear grievances, they will be taken in by society and become boring salarymen.
