Dean-E Mei: A Pungent Patriot

My work is an attempt to combine the relationship between historicism, commodity totem worship and political semantics. I do not intend to respond to questions about political correctness, but also try to show the unsolved issues of art itself. What I care about is how they find enough channels between history, reality and the public. In short, my creation is the crystallization of personal complexity. As long as the perception that can be obtained through the idea, it can be regarded as a style in the development of my personality. All the warriors related to experience may become artistic associations. They are the result of profound meaning and endless reproduction. There is a mysterious place. ---Dean-E Mei's self-report

The Heroic Lovers from the Tomb

The Heroic Lovers from the Tomb was a martial arts movie produced by Hsin Hwa Motion Picture Company in Hong Kong and shot in Taiwan. It tells the story of a gang and two teams of warriors seeking revenge for the murder of their parents. In comparison with The Return of the Condor Heroes written by Jin Yong and published in 1959, it is easy to see the influence of the novel on the film, including the similarities that the disciples are asked to be abstinent, the romance between the hero and the heroine and the Blade-Dance of the Two Lovers.

Zun-Tou Elementary School stood adjacent to Taoyuan International Airport. Everything on campus seemed to revolve around airplanes and the airport... yet it was precisely this proximity that ultimately led to the school’s disappearance. Through the interplay of sound and image, the film reconstructs a single day at the elementary school, piecing together the contours of childhood within its grounds. At the same time, the school serves as a microcosm, reflecting the broader erasure of landscapes under the Taoyuan Aerotropolis development.

Trapped between dual identities and the language of others, they search for self-definition and a sense of belonging. Through the perspective of plants, the work reflects personal life experiences, with the hope of breaking down the boundaries between individual, national, and identity definitions.
