Rap Attack

A documentary at the heart of French rap in 2002: its beginnings, its history, its influences. Featuring interviews, freestyles, and previously unseen live performances from French rap artists. Dance, graffiti, and DJing are explored with most of the pioneers of the movement, such as Squat, Dee Nasty, Crazy B, Lionel D, Kool Shen, DJ Mehdi… as well as Mode2 and Jon One for graffiti. The 1 hour and 20 minutes alternate between footage of concerts and artists in the studio, like DJ Pone, with commentary primarily from rappers but also from other key figures. A remarkable retrospective and work beginning with archival photos from New York.

Mascarades

Mounir Mekbek lives with his family in a small village in the heart of the Algerian countryside. Very proud and sure of himself, he has only one dream- to finally be appreciated by his fellow villagers. Screwing up his carefully maintained image is his headstrong, narcoleptic sister Rym who falls asleep anywhere and whom the village is convinced will end up a spinster. One evening, Mounir returns from town drunk and announces that he's found a suitor for his sister. The fake story snowballs and snowballs until the suitor morphs into a rich, blonde Australian. The village begins preparing for the wedding in earnest - but without a bridegroom in sight.

A half-hour immersion under the trees, road after road, with a succession of landscapes from the Périgord Noir... “uaoen” is a dreamlike film that leads the spectator through a landscape in transformation: in turn, its image is transformed, tree by tree, pixel by pixel — the landscape looses it’s iconography and its depth all while moving towards a final rupture with perspective by becoming completely flat. A work which frees itself from classical film dogma in order to become a space that is open and thus reserved for the liberty of the imagination.

Tower Opera

The idea of the current project was born during the making of the long documentary “Charbons Ardents” which dealt with the present-day struggle of a group of coal miners who had bought out their mine and become its sole owners. These miners accepted an offer put to them by the director Brendan Wheatley, to create an opera from the start of their adventure. The film will follow the creation of this new type of opera where two worlds, that of miners and artists come together to recreate the battle for Tower Colliery.

Although Mistigri, his cat, and Malika, the Moroccan maid, afford him some comfort, Martin is determined to put an end to this confusion.

Before the Walls Fall

Near Charleroi, Colin lives alone with his mother in a dilapidated house that collapses a little more each day. Faced with this misery, he writes with his friends in his room, which has been converted into a kind of improvised "youth center." Rap. As a safety valve and a necessity. The only way they have found to talk about this poverty in the heart of Europe, which is no longer even visible. Not even on our TV screens. As long as the house stands, they will not go outside. As long as they write together, they will not fall.

It Was On Earth That I Knew Joy

In this film, Jean-Baptiste de Laubier squarely doubles this hypothesis of Chris Marker: the traces of the times are no longer contained in the brain of a survivor of the disaster but in computer memories. History having disappeared, carried away by the extinction of men, machines tell stories with the images that men have bequeathed to them. Like those of this narrator who could not, him or anyone, survive the final virus but who left on a hard drive images shot from the time he was still living. His travels, family, love. Life. This life and its memory that our computer heirs sing about make it look nostalgic, a human feeling that we did not know they were programmed to feel.
