With this documentary, comes the certainty that the country needs to take a stand in the face of the dilemma that presents itself: In which world do we want to live? The poisoned world of agribusiness or of freedom and agroecological diversity?

1968: A greve de Contagem

In 2018, the fiftieth anniversary of the first workers' strike during the military dictatorship (1964 - 1985) was completed. Through the testimonies of historians, researchers and workers who participated in that historic strike in the Industrial City of Contagem, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, the documentary reconstructs this episode that lasted that same year, in July, in the famous strike in Osasco, in São Paulo. Intensifying the confrontation with the bourgeoisie in the military period and sowing the seeds of the new unionism that would emerge a decade later.

The film tells part of the trajectory of Carlos Alberto Caó de Oliveira, a black Brazilian politician, journalist, lawyer, president of the Union of Journalists of Rio de Janeiro. He was also vice-president of UNE, having been arrested and tortured by the military dictatorship. As a Constituent Federal Deputy in 1988, he acted in the fight for civil rights, it was his amendment that determines that “the practice of racism constitutes a non-bailable and imprescriptible crime”. Directed by Filó Filho and Wanda Ribeiro, the film has the support of two reference institutions in the Brazilian Black Movement, CEAP – Centro de Articulação de Populações Marginalizadas, active in the fight against religious intolerance and racism, and the Cultne Institute, which holds the largest digital collection of black culture in Latin America.
