Temple Island

Eddie Martinez is a dancer for Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. In 2009 Pina returned to Chile for her last residency before her passing that June. Eddie and I have continued our friendship ever since bonded by our love for Pina. In 2016, we collaborated on a short dance film. I told Eddie how I wanted to dance with the camera while he moved in the waters of Castle Island, MA. The film was shown as a 16mm projected loop for an expanded cinema event at the Boston Waterworks Museum. After that event I digitized the work print projected that night and created Temple Island, an ode to the body as our motor and our temple.

Above the Law

Unlike the case of humans, there is no law dictating to birds where to fly, when they choose to migrate: their freedom is not restricted by artificial (and very often temporary) borders or invented hierarchies. Through the use of miniature cameras mounted on trained eagles (a vantage point by definition), this aery documentary soars over areas of transit and surveillance, intertwining the birds’ migratory routes with the refugees’ desperate journey into the unknown. A vis-à-vis juxtaposition of human rule vs. nature’s law, which –in all its cruel simplicity– offers a sense of equality that cuts across dividing lines.

Power for Pollinators

"Power for Pollinators" explores how large land managers have a unique opportunity to turn tens of millions of acres into healthy pollinator habitat. In particular, power companies with right-of-way corridors and buffer zones are uniquely positioned to create large pollinator highways. These untapped areas have the potential to become one of the largest pollinator projects in history. If power companies and other land managers choose to work together planting flowers and reducing chemical use across the landscape, we can bring back pollinators and—with them—a host of essential food and ecosystem resources. As electricity flows through the landscape, power companies can help pollinators flow through the ecosystem.

Lennon's Last Weekend

In December 1980, John Lennon and Yoko Ono had not spoken to the media for more than five years. With a new album to promote Lennon was prepared to speak in New York to Radio One D.J. Andy Peebles of the BBC. John surprised everyone by candidly discussing a variety of subjects he'd never spoken of before including The Beatles break-up, his relationship with Paul McCartney, his battles with addiction, political issues in the US and UK, his family and his homesickness for Liverpool. Lennon's heartfelt honesty and forthright revelations make this film all the more potent as he was brutally shot and murdered 48 hours later. John Lennon was just 40 years of age when he died. December 2020 is the 40th anniversary of his death. He would have been 80 years of age.

Distance

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, 3 fearful families are united by a small act of hope. In addition to the viral pandemic, we are also faced with another threat, an Epidemic of Fear. It seems more people than ever right now are alone, scared, anxious, and consumed in fear. We need hope. We need storytelling that will remind people that even in the darkest hour, we can and will get through this, together. There is hope. There is love. And even if at a distance, we have each other.
