Nur ein Augenblick

Bastian happens to run into Isabelle in the elevator; he secretly writes his phone number on one of her cigarettes. The next morning, she smokes the cigarette. She accidentally destroys her chance to contact him again. Isabelle therefore goes to a radio station she knows Bastian likes and goes on the air to make a “I’m looking for” call, but at the exact moment she’s live on the radio—which he’s listening to—he gets a call and doesn’t hear her. She waits for him, but of course he doesn’t show up—or is there a chance for a do-over, a chance to go back in time and do it all over again?

First Leipzig Autumn Salon

In 1984, the “First Leipzig Autumn Salon” took place – a risk and a caesura for Dammbeck. Bypassing every state institution, six painters, sculptors and filmmakers organised an art exhibition. It was the first and last of its kind. This recapture of public space through art challenged the government’s monopoly on power and triggered similar activities by other artists in the art centres of the GDR. A brave signal to the SED who saw this exhibition as a “counter-revolutionary development”. After that, there were only two options: regress or leave.

Berlin Symphony

The documentary film describes a day in the big city of Berlin and is based on Walter Ruttmann's 1927 black-and-white silent film Berlin: Die Sinfonie der Großstadt, which also depicts a day in the big city of Berlin with musical accompaniment. As with Ruttmann, Schadt's film is also based on the tension curve of a symphony, although it is much flatter here. The spirit of optimism and hectic pace of the 1920s, which dominate the rhythm of its predecessor, have largely given way to a certain melancholy. The film reinterprets Ruttman's approach and shows the ruptures and wounds that Berlin suffered both socially and in the cityscape as a result of the war and the years that followed.

Das wirst du nie verstehen

Anja Salomonowitz portrays three women from her family who were still almost girls during the Nazi era. They stood on different sides, present history differently today, and belong to different memory collectives: her great-aunt survived Auschwitz. Her nanny was a socialist and supported her uncle in the resistance. Her grandmother lived in Graz during the war and did what most people did: nothing. The film confronts family narratives, examines the aftermath of history and the mechanisms of its transmission. Preceded by a work by Linda Christanell – "composed of fragments of reality and assembled into a new space."
