The lion doesn't cry

In the mountainous region of Gangwon-do on South Korea’s eastern coast, wildfires, both small and large, recur year after year. In the spring of 2023, a wildfire that broke out in Gyeongpo, Gangneung, reduced 551 homes to ashes in the span of a few hours. This film tells the story of a family who lost their home in that fire. After the fire, the family of three moves to a village where their great-aunt lives. In this strange place, their days are tangled with worry, emotional scars, and an uncertain future. The mother struggles with insomnia, while the father tries to adapt, learning to cook at great-aunt's restaurant. A Real Christmas

The film conducts an elusive search for the traces of Lee Kyung Soo, a Korean War orphan adopted by a U.S. Navy officer. Lee’s image circulated widely across newspapers, magazines, and photographs—serving specific purposes and cultural narratives. Over time, these representations fractured, faded, and reemerged, leaving silences in the archive and gaps in visibility. The cut-out fragments from the scattered information are pieced together to imagine the child’s unspoken point of view throughout his wandering life.
