Teach Us All

On the eve of the 60th anniversary of the 1957 Little Rock school desegregation crisis, educational inequality remains among the most urgent civil rights issues of our time. With its school district hanging in the balance following a state takeover in January 2015, Little Rock today presents a microcosm of the inequities and challenges manifesting in classrooms all across America. Through case studies in Little Rock, New York City, and Los Angeles, Teach Us All seeks to bring the critical lessons of history to bear on the current state of U.S. education and investigate: 60 years later, how far have we come-or not come-and how do we catalyze action from here?

American Kensho: Manifest Destiny

American Kensho is a series about Buddhist practitioners in genre situations, often also involving queer relationships and the insights of queer theory. American Kensho: Manifest Destiny, the first film in this series, is a horror/thriller piece where Sarah, our Zen Buddhist protagonist, and Julia, her pagan lover, battle with mindfulness and magic an oppressive cult attempting to assault their very souls. The writer/director provides a disclaimer for the viewer that while xyr personal Zen Buddhist practice guides the production of this ongoing project, it is an attempt to sort out the relationship of that practice to the world, and does not comprise any sort of Buddhist teaching in itself.

A Word to the Wise

The Solomon Islands — a constellation of 900 islands scattered in the South Pacific far from any major continent — remain one of the least disturbed places on Earth. There, you’ll find tangled jungles, crystaline waters and small communities of people who retain a deep and intrinsic connection with the ocean, land and history of their home. The story of the islands is told in this short film by Douglas Lui Fu’oa, a husband, father and amateur anthropologist who believes in living in harmony with nature, respecting the environment and understanding your roots
