A boxing ring turns into a stage for abstract animation where the punches thrown in the match and the halftone dots in reprographics gradually become indistinguishable. Tanaami shot a boxing match on a Motordrive camera, made two thousand offset prints, and rephotographed each of them. He explains his inspiration for the work being the experience of watching a boxing match on television but finding the newspaper print the next morning better capturing the exhilaration of the sport.

A night when parasites of various green forms devour humans. A cruel food chain that never ceases, and an eternal repetition of life and death. A grotesque and strange parable drawn by Yoji Kuri. Isao Tomita's synthesizer music echoes quietly and eerily.

Begun in 8mm film, but completed in 16mm following the purchase of a new camera, this work continues with the psychedelic and anti-war themes, while moments provide the seeds of his later abstract exploration.

This jailbreak movie centers on the elaborate schemes of the beleaguered inmates, assisted by some of the native women, to flee the island prison to get their freedom of the mainland. To do this, they must escape brutal guards, and an ocean full of crocodiles.

Discovering that she has terminal cancer with only months left to live, young music teacher Hsu Xiuya (Judy Ongg) leaves a comfortable career to pursue her dreams as a “teacher of love” at the remote and dilapidated Cixin [“The Heart of Mercy”] Orphanage. Life at first proves difficult but Xiuya wins the children’s hearts through her music, and transforms the Orphanage and its Headmaster with her patient and nurturing spirit, leaving behind an inspiring legacy of love. Love Begins Here has obvious allusions to Robert Wise’s Sound of Music (1965) via its characters, the lederhosen-inspired uniforms, a musical number channeling Liesl and Rolfe, and the picture-perfect mountain grassland shots - but the similarities end there. Ostensibly to enlighten and encourage the young generation of post-war Taiwan, the film also borrows from Richard Bach’s popular Jonathan Livingston Seagull (1970), a novel (and later film) of New Age philosophy of self-perfection and self-sacrifice.

Hong Kong movie

Based on the reincarnation theory of Buddhism, Heo Sun rescued a little white snake. Afterwards, a thousand-year-old white snake comes out to watch the May Festival when he discovers Heo Sun living in poverty. In order to thank him, the white snake takes the form of the maiden, Baek-ryang, and marries him, making a wealthy life for them. One day, the spiritual Buddhist priest Mo-san tells Heo Sun that Baek-ryang is a ghost. He tells him how to get rid of the woman but when he finds out that Baek-ryang is pregnant, he decides to wait a year. On the baby's 100th day celebration, Baek-ryang is buried in the gourd that Mo-san has made and she is unable to do any more magic.

The third film in Ogawa Productions’ Narita/Sanrizuka series of documentaries about the resistance by farmers and activists to the construction of the Narita Airport.

Great independent Kung Fu movie with James Nam, of 5 finger of death playing the good guy. Much like some of the better American Westerns of the 50's and 60's. Some very poignant scenes in this film, highly recommended!

The human eye, a well-known psychedelic motif, is multiplied and sharpened in Keiichi Tanaami's film trip 4 Eyes. Using his experience designing nightclubs, Tanaami projects two copies of the same film with a slight delay, so that it appears as if the ghost is losing consciousness. (IFFR)

Rogue and vagabond Gonbee pretends himself as a boss of Yokohama-city. He has his follower Senkichi perform, and tries to make the skin flick. One magazine applies for coverage to him. But in the coverage, he stole the purse from the editor in chief Murata. Murata desperately raped his woman colleague, and what's more he plans to outrageous action...

Ah, the rope melts tender skin again. Long ago, two ropes, one white and one red, were used as torture devices at the execution grounds. Criminals tied with these ropes, known as the "Couple's Rope," would die in ecstasy, mad with joy.

There is trouble in a fishing village on a remote southern island. The catch has been meagre and Wang-nyeoni, the local shaman, is on strike: she refuses to perform a ritual to turn fortunes around. In flashback we learn how she married into a shaman (dang-gol) family, tried her best to help her husband succeed as fisherman, but found both their lives blighted by Pan-su, the village boss and main ship-owner. After agreeing to return to duty, blessing the fishing fleet, Wang-nyeoni will serve up cold revenge in spectacular style.

A work with two projectors, Human Events is a film made for a dance performance by Kazuko Tsujimura at Kinokuniya Hall, Shinjuku, Tokyo. The images comprise of extreme close-ups of the dancer’s body that is massaged by a finger as the colour of the image changes. Arranged in a two (side)-by-three (down) composition, different parts of the body gets scattered in ways that defy the familiar order of the anatomy.

During World War II, Japanese soldiers set up bases in Thailand to fight the war. The Thai government had to give in and cooperate with Japan. However, many movements arose to resist the Japanese army in order to protect and preserve Thai identity.

Chizuru is a blind girl who lives in a poor rural orphanage, Hope House. In order to help her and get the winning prize of 100,000 dollars, Tiger Mask = Naoto Date turns his back on Baba and Inoki, who are indebted to him, and participates in the big event "Masked World League" set up by Tiger's Den. While hurt both physically and mentally, he fights against the monster wrestlers sent out by the Tiger's Den.

A wizard vampire haunts a number of warriors. He has several zombie servants. The warriors must defeat both threats.

In this personal film made during when Idemitsu went back and forth between Japan and USA, the subjective gaze is depicted in the abstract images with high contrast.
