The history of cinema has already defined the prison film as its own genre with its own elements and particular qualities, in fiction as well as in documentary. The interesting thing about this essay, filmed in the maximum security prison of Spoleto, in Perugia, Italy, is that it uses none of those elements and qualities, and so defines itself more for what it is not, than for what it is.

An hallucination after the storm. Shot in 8 mm, of the dark and disappearing roads scratched by lightning. The discovery that a village festivity is also possible in a puddle at night is both, terrible and sublime. Do the images drown and disappear in our memory, or are we drowning while the images observe us from an unreachable time?

Il giorno dei due papi santi - 27 Aprile 2014
Cars affect our primary senses on all levels, they define our world and change our contemporary society. Our tastes have changed: drive-in food, that was once at most a monthly family treat has now become an essential daily ritual in our fast-paced, consumer society. We barely notice the smell of exhaust fumes but more and more people are getting sick from atmospheric pollution. Our cities are now designed in function of cars, changing what we see and our perception of the world we live in. The film seeks to question the car myth, something that is deeply rooted in our consumer society. A group of primary school's kids guide the spectators in a journey into our imaginary. Using automotive archives and through the involvement in a dynamic way of scientists, engineers, anthropologist and racing drivers, the film explores how the car has changed not only the cities we live in but also our lives.

The movie is divided in 4 sections. The 1st one is about the 70s, when Italian society discovered the "sex, drugs and rock'n roll" culture. Many witnesses are interviewed about their own experiences as drug addicts or sex consumers: mainly the incoming "gay liberation" politics are focused. The 2nd part is about the 80s: HIV comes to Italy from the USA and it becomes a tragic disease. Through the stories told by the witnesses we can get the atmosphere of fear and panic around the first victims, and also the first attempts of the medical researchers to stop the infection. The 3rd part is about the 90s. Now the witnesses speak about the new "life style" of the Hiv-positive people: they don't die anymore, but can live thanks to new medicines, and so the problems are wider and more complex. The 4th part is about the first decade of the new century, when new items come out in this field: the most important items are the non-awareness among younger people and the spreading of "barebacking".

Erto, a small village perched on the side of a valley in the Italian Alps. In the late 1950's the Vajont Dam - at the time the tallest in the world - was built into this steep valley. Just a few years later in 1963, a massive landslide spilled into the dam's artificial lake, causing the dam's reservoir to overflow. The massive wave that followed left nearly 2,000 people dead. The inhabitants of Erto have re-enacted the Passion of the Christ year after year since time immemorial, continuing their tradition even after the tragedy. Once a year on the night of Good Friday, a Christ from Erto is betrayed, condemned and crucified as History marches forward with its constructions and destructions, its victims and survivors, and its Calvaries - both real and imagined.
La passione di Erto
Starting with a provocative title, two young directors from Tuscany Laura Landi and Giovanna Selis set out to show how the lesbian community in Italy must still fight against homophobic taboos. What emerges, above all, is the widespread attitude which denies and ignores, sometimes excluding, the existence of the "L World", which is doomed to invisibility. It's no accident that one of the girls interviewed in the film declares, "Actually, it's like lesbians do not exist". She thus highlights the existence of a psychological repression in public awareness, in which homosexual women have been shut up. A succession of voices and stories, dealing with GLBT parenting and relationship with their own parents, discrimination and affection. The film includes some brief sketches by Le brugole (The Allen Keys), the female cabaret duo who have performed on the TV comedy show "Zelig Off". A successful example of a low-budget production, financed by crowdfunding.
Lesbians Do Not Exist
From the hell of the city, we pass into another dimension: that of the silence of nature. Among caves, waterfalls and woods, the path rises higher and higher, towards the memory and the mountains. The sun sets and night looms. But the dawn of a new day appears on the horizon and the world before us lights up. In the distance, you can hear the echoes of the city, and a boy, at the top of the mountain, listens to the wind, losing himself in the infinite.

Chiara was seven years old when she began filming her family. She was twelve when she decided to stop, the year her older sister, Francesca, fell ill. This is how the image of the "perfect family," constructed through the footage shot by a child, began to crumble, to "disintegrate." Alice, a documentary-style short film, is an attempt to "put the pieces back together" by recovering past memories, in a continuous search between rewind and fast-forward.
