Daily News — A Chronicle of Our Days

Newsreels were one of the most powerful tools of Soviet propaganda. They also make up a significant part of the state film archives. In the newsreels, the recent past presents itself as a monolith of silent images, firmly stitched together by the narrator's voice and soundtrack subtly playing the viewer's feelings. It is exactly this original sound that the artist suggests to detach from. Just two or three minutes long episodes retain the original montage, which was meant to follow the upbeat narration. Flickering images of the past, which perhaps can only become enchanting to us today by revealing their muteness.

Free Fall

In Soviet Russia the Altaic shepherding family Urmatov were heroes. Father Kara was showered with honours for regularly exceeding expectations. For his son Boris and his daughter Marina, though, those days are just a memory. Unemployment is now rife in the entire region and worries are drowned with vodka. Marina sets up a small private bakery, baking day and night to ensure the family survives. When debris from a Proton M rocket crash-lands on the mountain pasture, narrowly missing the cabin, Boris and Marina demand a large sum of compensation money from the Russian space agency Roscosmos. Their claims remain unanswered and instead of the much-hoped-for improvement in their lives, the family is beset by more disaster.

This movie is about love and hatred, about the fact that the racial-tribal division of mankind, the division between 'us' and 'them' as an animal-instinctive phenomenon, should disappear. It is about the conflict between conscience and duty, honor and a tragic situation, from which everyone is seeking a way out, except for ... the "village idiot' Halois, the childhood friend of Aitech ... And maybe only people like him know the truth, people who are above religious and racial prejudices? Maybe people like Halois are our conscience, honor and dignity?

Bad Guy and Not Good Girl

Tired of the handicrafts of the servants of Rublev's and Mytishchi's folks, thirsty for the bathing of the Yellow Elephant, caring wanderers through the backstage of the looking glass, It will be! A celebration of animal jokes and intelligent humor, a cinephile breakthrough by a group of off-system rock drummers, a carefully conceived and carried out terraction in the tradition of Trier’s “dogmas” with the participation of ordinary zombies and other alcoholic ghosts of developed capitalism, all sorts of squirrels, non-normative constructs of the dense-dog realism of the returned era of the 90s.

Love for Two of Us

Reflection on ascetic monastic life. The main characters are ordinary people who live and work on the territory of the monastery. They help monks, parishioners and themselves. Every day passes within the framework of a clear schedule of services, meals and obediences, and everything is repeated exactly the next day. In this repetition and silence, a pure rhythm of life is created, which at first glance may not differ much from life outside the gates of the monastery. But in the abode of the non-material God, people live somehow especially honestly, some kind of special real life.
