The Two Noble Kinsmen - Live at Shakespeare's Globe

How long is forever? When the imprisoned Palamon and Arcite vow eternal friendship, they don’t expect that anything will come between them. But then from their cell window they see the beautiful Emilia, and their priorities take a sudden and violent turn. In this late romance, Fletcher and Shakespeare examine love in all its fluid and complex forms. Barrie Rutter, recipient of the 2003 Sam Wanamaker Award, directs his first play since stepping down as Artistic Director of Northern Broadsides. Horne A'Plenty

From the team that brought you the West End hit Round The Horne…Revisited comes Horne A’Plenty, with scripts by Johnnie Mortimer and Brian Cooke. Horne A’Plenty is written as a tribute to one of the great Radio and TV performers, Kenneth Horne. Two weeks before they were due to start the next series of Round the Horne, Kenneth Horne passed away. It was the 14th of February 1969. Johnnie Mortimer and Brian Cooke had successfully written half of the fourth series with Barry Took, and had spent many months working on what would have comprised the fifth. Fast-forward 48 years, and Brian Cooke took these ‘pieces’ out of the drawers they’d been consigned to and read them all again. The show consists of many of those ‘pieces’, along with brand new material – and includes no less than four film parodies!

Simon Munnery: Fylm Makker

'Do as thou wishest, I am a fylm makker, you a film maker, make what you can from my residues, tis no concern of I' ...is what Simon Munnery said when we asked him if we could release a recording of his Fylm Makking experiments. In these shows, Simon never appears on stage. Instead he sits in the audience behind a box of tricks that can display his face, the table or both. From here he contrives to make live films - or Fylms - which are projected on a big screen at the front of the theatre. What you see on the DVD is exactly what the audiences saw on their big screen.

First Man on the Moon

Neil Armstrong's family and friends, many of whom have never spoken publicly before, tell the story of the first man to set foot on the moon. Drawing heavily on unbroadcast archive footage and the unique perspectives of the contributors, this is an exclusive account of Neil Armstrong's extraordinary life story. From his childhood during America's Great Depression to the heady days of the space programme, his historic first step on the Moon and his famously private later life. Seen through the eyes of those who were with him, the film explores the man behind the myth, a man who was very much a product of his time. The film goes beyond his days as an astronaut and shows that his life after the flight of Apollo 11 was, in many ways equally challenging, as Armstrong came to terms with life outside NASA and the relentless demands of fame until his death in August 2012.

The programme delves into the extraordinary world of Lord Bute and reveals what connects the small Scottish island of Bute to modern Cardiff, and the start of a lifetime's collaboration with artists and architects which would pour Bute's original mind into fabulous buildings in an astonishing variety of styles.

Taşkafa, Stories of the Street

Taşkafa is a real dog and also a legend on the streets of Istanbul. John Berger begins Taşkafa’s story, reading from his novel, King, the story of the disappearance of a community told from a dog’s perspective. The area’s ordinary people – taxi drivers, shopkeepers, street traders – care deeply about the welfare of the city’s street dogs and they tell us stories about Taşkafa and their other canine neighbours. The animals are a symbol of community living, where people (and dogs) look out for each other, but this is a community in transition; one from which dogs are starting to be expelled. Eccentric, amusing and very warm, the film is a powerful indictment of the impact of global politics and the economic appropriation of public space but, even more, it is a tribute to both the spirit of resistance and to city life that can accommodate people and dogs together.

Acts Of Faith

Auto Da Fé is a diptych that looks at migration through the lens of religious persecution. Presented as a poetic period drama, the film presents a series of eight historical migrations over the last 400 years, starting with the little known 1654 fleeing of Sephardic Jews from Catholic Brazil to Barbados. As the film develops, we are presented with tale after tale of populations being displaced along religious lines, right up to the present day migrations from Hombori, Mali and Mosul, Iraq. Religion, persecution and migration are, it seems, old and continuing bedfellows. The work was filmed on location in Barbados, but the landscape is deliberately anonymous, reflecting the universal nature of these stories.
