Wang Chieh is a young man who's in love with a girl, Yang Wan-ru. However, Yang tells her friend, Tang Hwa, that she's fond of another boy, Kang Ping. Tang Hwa host a party at her place and announces to everyone there that she's engaged to Kang Ping. Yang is heartbroken and later agrees to marry Wang if he's able to pay for her mother's medical bills. He fulfilled his promise and they end up marrying each other. Years later, Wang gets himself into trouble with drugs and goes to jail. Yang returns to her hometown and finds out that Tang Hwa is married but not to Kang Ping. Yang starts an affair with Kang but realizes that he's just a womanizer. Yang returns home and wait for her husband to be released from prison.

To escape an arranged marriage, a young lord (Paul Chang Chung) flees to the hidden mountains of Sichuan to study martial arts from one of the world's greatest fighters. When his master is killed, the young warrior sets out to avenge his death, unaware that he's walking into a deadly battle with the woman (Bik Wan Lo) he left at the altar. The young lord is about to experience the true meaning of "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."

An avid fan of film star Patsy Kar Ling, Tse Sing falls head over heels for his new colleague Cheung Wai-ling who is a spitting image of the star, not knowing that she is the mistress of Manager Chow. When his wife comes to check the new secretary out, Chow lies that she is Tse's wife. When the truth dawns on the eager suitor, he heaps scorn on her. The distressed Cheung becomes suicidal and before taking the fatal pills, opens her heart to Mrs Chow. She is saved in time and, touched by her words, Tse professes his love for her and wins her heart.

There is no dialogue or narration in this "fake" documentary, which has the look of a real documentary, but actually uses actors to portray awakening residents of Taipei as they go about their morning routines. With the camera as our guide we see lively early morning markets, residents going to church, students practicing singing, people exercising, and others heading off to work.

Kawasaki, a high school student from Ichiko, walks along a mountain path toward Amagi and encounters a troupe of traveling performers. He becomes captivated by Kaoru, a black-haired dancer carrying a drum on her back. Deciding to travel with the troupe to Shimoda, Kawasaki finds that Kaoru also harbors a tender affection for him.

Made as Taiwan’s economy took off in the 1960s, Early Train from Taipei is a classic country-to-city melodrama of development. To save her bankrupt rural family, Xiulan takes the train to Taipei to earn money. Boyfriend Huotu is horrified to find she has been tricked into becoming a dancer in a nightclub when he visits, and tries to persuade her to leave the next morning on the early train from Taipei. Tragedy piles upon tragedy in this cautionary tale, which touched a nerve with audiences and inspired a raft of sequels.

Cameraman Yonesaku Kobayashi (1905-2005) is a pioneer of scientific films of Japan. He and producer Sozo Okada made many scientific educational films, and in 60's - 70's, many avant-garde composers composed music for these films.

"It's a mixture of [dead] animals, pieces of [broken] furniture, industrial waste, kids playing. I didn't have in mind any of the kind of historical perspective, nor was I trying to make an ecological statement. I was showing the new landscape of our civilization. My point of view was animistic. I tried to revive those dead animals metaphorically and to give the junk new life."
