Even thieves have a lobby! And they defend their clientele, especially since their very existence is at risk. The safety precautions in safes and in banks are becoming ever stricter, making the working conditions for burglars and thieving magpies more and more difficult. Therefore, the interest group of property reducers - VDEI for short - made representations to the responsible minister and confronted him with a warning strike, which is intended to make it clear what economic function thieves and burglars have in society. The strike calls everyone involved in property security onto the scene: burglars and interest groups for guns, guard dog breeders and tank crackers gather. After heated discussions, an agreement can finally be reached - but the consumer has to pay for it.

Monika and Richard would not have expected this after they walked down the aisle. As the 50,000th bride and groom to say "I do" in church, they are invited by a company to spend their honeymoon in a castle and luxury hotel in Baden-Baden. The condition, however, is that their vacation is accompanied by a film crew. The constantly annoying cameraman and other unforeseen things prevent the two from being able to spend their wedding night without any disturbances

Two Paths

This short piece for the television station Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) is highly relevant to Farocki's later work. Zwei Wege is a cheeky description of a picture; Farocki shows us an image, a religious allegory showing the 'right' and the 'wrong' path for a Christian. The one path leads to heaven, the other to hell. Farocki uses the camera in effect to dissect the picture; he shows close-ups of the paintings various motifs, which he underscores with rhymes. This method of breaking down an image with the camera reminds us of similar sequences in his essay films, namely Wie man sieht and Bilder der Welt und Inschrift des Krieges.

Documentary with beautiful black-and-white CinemaScope shots, which combined impressive scenes from a trip to the Ukraine with historical reminiscences. The censors criticized the "too narrow and too intimate view" of the Soviet Union; they didn't like the fact that bells were ringing, that a chauffeur from the film crew or an elderly peasant couple recalled the horrors of war or that Nikolai Gogol and Yevgeny Yevtushenko were quoted - that was considered backward-looking. Without the knowledge of the filmmakers Karlheinz Mund and Christian Lehmann, the film was shortened and mutilated; the seventeen minutes that were allowed for a public screening are only the torso of a large draft.

This drama is taken from Thomas Mann's 1903 semi-autobiographical novel. Tonio (Jean Claude Brialy) is an aspiring writer and the son of a rigid aristocratic father and a music-loving mother. Wandering throughout Germany and Italy to "find himself," Tonio frequently remembers his childhood experiences in a series of flashbacks. The highlight of the film is the expert lensing by cinematographer Wolf Wirth. Erika Mann, the daughter of the late poet and author, collaborated with Ennio Flaiano on the screenplay.
