Endlich fliegen

The dreams of young Andrea. The camera accompanies the seven-year-old girl in 1976 when she was at school dressed up and singing as a flying butterfly. Later, at the age of 17, she wanted to be "free" from her parents and tried to realize her dream as a dancer at a ballet school in Leipzig, but quickly failed and gave up. From then on, she works as a waitress in a restaurant because she is around people and feels comfortable there. Out of Your Clothes

The reflections of a young woman on her balcony, shaking her laundry. The private thoughts of this woman are drowned in her own delirium, which is accentuated and framed by the film’s repetitive imagery. The camera slowly zooms out to reveal the urban décor in which the film was made. The anonymous facades of the surrounding apartment blocks push us to imagine that behind each one of these buildings hides a collection of unique lifestyles and thoughts. The artist brings this to light through a strange and almost sad sense of humor.

Sara

Images from Berlin. The streets of the city and its inhabitants, cars and passers-by. You see the renovated synagogue on Oranienburger Straße and suddenly small details in someone's apartment. A woman's voice begins to narrate off-screen. The voice belongs to Sara, who recounts her childhood in Czestochowa, Poland. Experiences from her life: how she ended up in a ghetto as a child, later in a concentration camp, which was liberated towards the end of the war. She then lived first in Israel, later in the GDR. Karsten Troyke gives concerts in the Hackesche Höfe. He sings Yiddish songs, most of which he learned from Sara. She had not forgotten them. Two men talk about the chosen people and discuss Jewish identity with Sara: her two sons.

Im Lichtbild der Großstadt

This film takes a look at Berlin's development towards becoming a metropolis. It reveals a city in transition, a work-in-progress; it pauses to examine all kinds of architecture, bot old and new and to meet the city's inhabitants, users and planners. At the film's centre, however, is the building and planning currently taking place at the city's central axes: Potsdamer Platz, the Spreebogen, Friedrichstadt, Spreeinsel and Alexanderplatz. The camera, representing the eye of the narrator, leads the viewer through the various architectural sets of Berlin as if guiding us among the pictures of an exhibition.
