Natan, le fantôme de la rue Francoeur

In 1927, Bernard Natan, a Frenchman of Romanian origin (born Natan Tannenzapf) inaugurated the Montmartre film studios. A few years later, he took over the management of the Pathé company, which became Pathé Natan. Bernard Natan profoundly reorganized the company and ensured its success. But the Great Depression of the 1930s plunged the economy into turmoil and Bernard Natan fell prey to the extreme right-wing press. He was arrested in 1938, stripped of his French nationality and finally handed over to the Germans in 1942. Deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau, he died there shortly afterwards.

Scripture Screw-Up

Can the power of Christ cure blindness? What is the secret to turning water into wine? Ruthless talk show host Mary Malone interviews the one and only Jesus of Nazareth (if that is even his real name) to cut through centuries of misunderstandings, debunking the miraculous stories we all know and love (but understand so little of). A mini-mythbuster of biblical proportions, Scripture Screw-Up is a comic cautionary tale for believers, unbelievers and everyone in between.

I See Red People

After twenty-five years spent in France, I return to Bulgaria, camera in hand, with a vertiginous suspicion: what if my family had collaborated with the political police of the communist regime? And what if they were part of the "red trash" that the demonstrators on the street want to see disappear? I decide to investigate and to film, constantly, ready for anything. My adventure transforms itself into a tragic comic odyssey; a film that combines espionage with family.

Professor Wall im Bordell

Hanns Zischler embarks on a walk to Canossa in "Prof. Wall in the brothel": A law professor desperately wants to make amends, that through his guilt an outstanding student has broken off and now works as a prostitute. With targeted provocations Emilia Schüle as Aurelie takes apart his self-righteousness. Director Stefan Krohmer focuses on the psycho-duo of the excellent leading actor in his chamber-like staging: The longer the dispute lasts, the more the original balance of power between the prostitute and her unusual client turns upside down.

Days of Light

This beautifully integrated, multi-threaded narrative seamlessly interweaves six stories set in radically different locations across Central America, ranging from the tropical forests of Guatemala to the skyscrapers of Panama City. When a solar storm leaves the region without power, myriad dramas unfold over the course of five days during which all conveniences of modernity are stripped away. In Costa Rica, a pastor and his daughter worry for the future of their church, while in El Salvador, a grandmother and grandson make an arduous journey into the city. A husband and wife reconnect in Honduras, as a young couple nurses a mysterious stranger back to health in Guatemala. Meanwhile, in Nicaragua, a young woman prepares for her quinceañera and in Panama, a housekeeper grows exasperated with her demanding employer.

Olha's Italian Diary

An intimate sneak-peek into a contemporary taboo topic: intimate lives of the female migrants away from home. Olha is a migrant care worker in Naples, whose life could fill up a few telenovelas. And yet, it is so similar to the lives of many Ukrainian women in Italy. Will Olha be able to give Naples a chance and find a true feeling among the routines of her transnational life? The full-length film is based on a short documentary film of the same title by the same director, which was filmed as part of the Verzio Film Festival's DocLab workshop in 2016.
