Lily Besilly, wearing a lavender vest, shares a childhood memory from second grade in “Bernadette und Belfighor.” She and her friend, who played the dominant role, would meet at a construction site. Her friend, Princess Bernadette, crowned Lily as Princess Julia. Despite being dressed as a princess, Lily remained in shorts, indistinguishable from a boy. To escape the vampire Belfighor, they cut their palms to mix their blood, saving themselves. As they left hand in hand, Lily felt truly happy, though her hand still hurt. Cartoon characters Bernadette and Lily, holding hands, were depicted with Bernadette in a short green dress and Lily as a tomboy.

Nicanor, a fictional inhabitant of the American continent, raises his voice and tells the story of Nicaragua, beginning with the discovery of America by Columbus and Gil Gonzales. The massacres carried out by the Spanish and their gold rush initiate the process of colonization. Nicanor survives the oppression and murder of the original inhabitants of his country and later takes part in the struggles for independence. In modern times, he becomes one of the founders of the Sandinista liberation organization FSLN and is tortured and killed in the fight against Somoza's dictatorship. But his story continues: on the side of the victors, he works for the reconstruction of the country as a farmer, teacher, soldier, doctor, and student. Even after the Sandinistas' election defeat, he continued his struggle.

In the summer of 1989, Nepalese student Nirmala met Afghan refugee Mohammed Ataie in the capital city of Kathmandu. They fell in love, even though they did not share a common language or religion. Nirmala followed her future husband to asylum in Bremen, where two of his brothers already lived. The Hindu woman converted to Islam and married in April 1990 according to Islamic rites. On their wedding night, disaster struck. He accused her of not being a virgin, abused her for hours, and locked her in the room assigned to them in the asylum seekers' accommodation. Nirmala managed to flee to a women's shelter twice. She was living there when her husband forced her to meet him in the Bürgerpark with a letter from Nepal. There he killed her with seventeen knife stabs.

A young woman has lost access to her memory. Modern laboratory technology makes it possible to send her on a dream journey of remembrance. Her brain is connected to a computer that confronts her with video recordings from her past, with vacation and family photos that everyone is familiar with and that nevertheless become an unforgettable part of one's own memory because they can be accessed at any time. Using silent film and techniques from the video age, the film tells a story about the intrusion of media into individual memory.

The experimental film "Spurenbilder" (Trace Images) juxtaposes elementary particle physics and dance. Images of a dancer's meditative movements and sterile machine rooms provide a brief insight into two different worlds in which people are searching for the elementary. The film does not content itself with pointing out obvious polarities. In a magical dance, it dissolves the contrast.

Memories of a children's game in variations. It was played in the 1960s, when there were more children and probably more monks than there are today. The film is set in a suburban housing estate separated from a garden by a wire mesh fence. But there is a gap in this fence, and monks seeking relaxation stroll up and down in the garden. In the eyes of the neighborhood children, the monks resemble strange black creatures. The children play until the day when one of the monks approaches them menacingly and transforms into a normal adult. The game is over.

Si Mustapha Müller - Kurze Zeit des Ruhms
In the excerpt from Alfred Kubin's novel "Die andere Seite" (The Other Side), which forms the basis for the film, the protagonist describes the stages of a long journey by train and ship. The text and staging run counter to each other: the journey takes place only in language, not in images. The travelers in the film—a wealthy German couple traveling to Russia—are not getting anywhere. Trains pass by in the window of the train compartment, the book lies open before their eyes.

Hanayagi Genshyu: Capable of bloody violence, yet at the same time an empathetic dancer and singing all-round talent – an unusual Japanese woman who acts and lives according to her own individual and very radical standards. In her artistic interpretation of a classic Japanese work, she rejects rigid, tradition-bound stylization, allowing feelings to speak instead. She reinterprets the content from a woman's perspective.Hanayagi Genshyu: Capable of bloody violence, yet at the same time an empathetic dancer and singing all-round talent – an unusual Japanese woman who acts and lives according to her own individual and very radical standards. This short film attempts the impossible: to capture time itself in images, beyond its function in any story. The viewer's attention should not be focused on the realities depicted, but on the flow of time.

Filmmaker Gad needs it for his film; Beatrice would like it for cosmetic surgery; her boyfriend Hans-Jürgen; needs it for better acting roles; Franz earns it with dubious magazine stories, and his girlfriend Mariola wants it so she can finally leave him and go to America with Gad. The money, without which love supposedly makes no sense, sets things in motion, but this movement/emotion does not necessarily mean progress—it sometimes turns out to be a cycle.
Tor zur Welt
After the war, about 200,000 Jewish Holocaust survivors lived in Allied camps in Germany, unable to return home or stay in Germany. Many wanted to go to Palestine, but legal immigration was limited. Jewish organizations organized illegal immigration, including in Lübeck, where Benjamin Gruszka, known as “Bolek,” helped send refugees to Palestine. The ship Exodus, carrying 4,500 people, was seized by the British in June 1947 and returned the passengers to German camps, including Camp Pöppendorf in Lübeck. A filmmaker, inspired by photos of Jewish orphans in the camp, traveled to Israel to find them.

Europe in the not-too-distant future. Environmental disasters have become commonplace. The population has adapted brilliantly: every bag contains gas masks and protective suits. Only gas mask filters are in short supply. During an incident, a couple meets for a rendezvous. In a quiet place, they connect their masks with a "love tube." Just as they are overcome with passion, their gas mask filters are stolen by a thief. The young couple's lives are in danger. Their "breathless" chase through the world of tomorrow begins.
