Ya Rayah

Discreetly zany, Ya Rayah collects heterogeneous objects and images. Throughout this list we find smoking shoes, errant typographies, x-rays of feet... The assembly of these materials creates a playful journey, revealing the movement of writing in the process of being written. Where we find the poetic gesture dear to the imagination of ALIS, whose work is inspired by the methods of Oulipo. The approach of ALIS, a group founded by Dominique Soria and Pierre Fourny, is not standard. It focuses on the search for a new expression using different artistic disciplines. Usually their compositions are exhibited on stage or exhibited in art galleries. After La Complaint du Progrès, this film once again opens up, to the music of Dahmane el Harrachi, a rich field of investigation into their joyful and cleverly organized words.

Grand Theft Parsons

There are times when it's right and proper to simply bury the dead. This is not one of those times... Gram Parsons was one of the most influential musicians of his time; a bitter, brilliant, genius who knew Elvis, tripped with the Stones and fatally overdosed on morphine and tequila in 1973. And from his dying came a story. A story from deep within folklore; a story of friendship, honour and adventure; a story so extraordinary that if it didn't really happen, no one would believe it. Two men, a hearse, a dead rock star, five gallons of petrol, and a promise. And the most extraordinary chase of modern times.

Puccini: Edgar (Teatro Regio di Torino)

Puccini’s operas are among the most beloved and best-known works in the classical repertoire, but Edgar may be unknown even to aficionados, at least as it is presented here. This original four-act version of Edgar, first performed in 1889, was believed lost for over a century when Puccini’s granddaughter Simonetta discovered the score fully intact in 2008. In addition to the third act’s funeral music, which Arturo Toscanini conducted at Puccini’s funeral in 1924, listeners may recognize the duet from the now-restored fourth act, cut by Puccini in subsequent revisions of the work: it bears more than a passing similarity to the third-act duet in Tosca.

Die Fledermaus (La chauve-souris)

If there has been an "edit" somewhere on the music theatre scene since the dawn of the new millennium, which has been noted by the chroniclers as a tangible scandal - then the Salzburg festival production of the operetta "The Bat" by Johann Strauß, staged by Hans Neuenfels. Neuenfels, born in Krefeld in 1941 and long known as the "enfant terrible" of the theatre scene, was not the first within the reception history of the "bat" who dared to scratch their paint. This time there was not only an unconventional direction, but also serious interventions in the libretto. Neuenfels has written new dialogues, incorporating texts from other authors: Karl Kraus, Gottfried Benn, Hugo Ball. Conductor is Marc Minkowski.
