Big Manni

Things could truly be better for regionally successful entrepreneur Manfred Brenner in the mid-1980s. For Brenner, however, there is no reason to worry, because he is firmly counting on a breakthrough with his newly founded company FlowTex. With innovative horizontal drilling systems, he wants to revolutionize underground pipeline construction. But at first the big success remains elusive. He finally succeeds by relying on drilling systems and orders that don't even exist, piling up loan upon loan and leasing contract upon leasing contract. He uses charm and persuasion, and for a long time no one notices that Brenner is building a fraudulent consortium of companies with just a few helpers and a lot of falsified documents.

The Prince of Homburg

Through an unconventional narrative structure, Staff’s video cuts together a narration of Heinrich von Kleist’s play The Prince of Homburg with interviews, conversation, found footage, hand painted animation and song. In a series of fragmented ‘daytime’ sequences, a range of artists, writers and performers reflect on contemporary queer and trans identity and its proximity to desire and violence. Intercut with flashes of the sun and sky, city streets and text, subjects include Sarah Schulman, Che Gossett, Macy Rodman and Debra Soshoux. Each of these segments is punctuated by ‘night-time' diversions, narrated by writer Johanna Hedva in the dual role of both narrator and Prince.

Run Free

In 2016 eleven young men from Parade Gardens in Kingston, Jamaica travelled to Scotland for the first time, bringing their powerful parkour performance Run Free to the National Theatre of Scotland’s Home/Away festival. Now the story of their journey is told in a heart-warming new documentary film. Run Free: The Documentary shows the struggles and triumphs of these young men as they create a piece of theatre that impacts both them and their community, a journey that saw them travel across the world, many for the first time, from the streets of Kingston to the international stage. Run Free was developed as part of the National Theatre of Scotland’s pioneering Jump programme. Originally presented by the National Theatre of Scotland, British Council, and Manifesto Jamaica, under the creative guidance of directors Simon Sharkey, Brian Johnson, and choreographer Liane Williams.

Becoming Alluvium

In this emotionally charged contemplation on the glory and the tragedy of the Mekong River, different levels of real and imaginary worlds are brought together. Khmer folk tales, local lore and stories about reincarnation are told through vibrant watercolour animations and observations of daily life. Imbued with a sense of ecological responsibility toward the agricultural realities of the Mekong delta, they reveal a poetic but nonetheless biting consideration of Vietnam's troubled history.

Moretti ou le monstre oublié

It is said that, somewhere in the bowels of the district of La Défense, a monster slumbers, forgotten by everyone. It occupies a secluded room in the basement of this Business District dedicated to the world of finance. This gigantic creature would be the masterpiece of a man: the artist Raymond Moretti native from Nice in France. It is said that the painter sacrificed everything to this work of art. Why did he prefer to consecrate his life to it rather than to the brilliant career that presented itself to him? Why did he leave his strange offspring dragging him inexorably to the depths of La Défense and oblivion?
