A Girl and a Shipwreck

KIM Haneuldameun is a young girl who dreams of becoming an underwater photographer. One day in 2013, she encounters a wrecked ship underneaththe water. For some time, she feared of entering the water after the Sewol Ferry disaster. However, she continues her task of capturing images of the wrecked ship on camera. She decides to open an exhibition of her underwater photo works with an underwater photographer. She offers her photos of the sky and clouds as a present to the wrecked ship that cannot see the sky from beneath the water it has sunken into.

It's been 4 years graduating college. What am I doing? I am unemployed. With a hope of being healed, I've decided to getaway to Jeju Island and am on board SeWol ship. Once I arrive at the island after 13 hours of traveling, my heart was broken by witnessing painful seizure of local people's hearts due to the brutal governmental policy on the construction of Naval base. This film follows vividly the fate of fragile persons and nature suppressed by the government's ridiculous decisions. The story is told by Mira.

Crossing Three Borders

Guided by Pastor Peter Jung, a South Korean activist, nine defectors are gathered in a Southern China village. North Korean defectors are internationally accepted as refugees, yet China does not recognize them as such. So, the plan is to cross into Vietnam because if they are arrested in China, they face repatriation, which in turn leads to imprisonment, or worse. With the help of Pastor Jung, the nine refugees cross successfully by night into Vietnam. But the South Korean Embassy refuses to accept the defectors. Still in hiding, a search begins for an Embassy that might offer safe harbour and refugee status. There is some hope that the Danish diplomatic mission will offer assistance, but once out in the open, their position known, they are at risk. The penalties threatened by China are not to be taken lightly….

On The Road

Baekheung-am Temple, a bhikkhunī (Buddhist nun) temple which opens only twice a year, is famous for its conservatism and principles. Access to this temple is prohibited and so is picture-taking. Although it was difficult to get the permission for shooting, it unlatched the latch by itself after I was officially exiled four times. Monk Sunwoo who lost her parents when she was three years old and grew up in the temple asks herself if this way is what she chose and what it means to her. Monk Sangwook chose to become a Buddhist priest before she became a professor. Her old sick mother constantly visits her to change her mind. Old master of seventy years old, who has trained for 40 years, self-examines her severely asking if she has lived properly.

In an unknown time when everything is colorless, the world pale and desolate, everybody is born with similarly pale white skin. There is absolutely no sign of color in this world at all. However, one boy is born with yellowish skin. Everybody treats him like some sort of monster, and the boy lives in isolation, in the woods with his mother. The year he turns 16, the boy's depressed mother, unable to bear the seclusion, commits suicide. The boy blames himself for her death and dreams of becoming a normal pale-skinned person.

In the late evening, in Mano Design Team Office. The team members are celebrating their successful completion of work in Seongsan Electronics Project. As it gets late, everyone else leaves, but the team leader Seonggyu and core team member Heeju remain to continue their own celebration and they go to the team leader's office. The two are drunk with alcohol and the ambience. Seonggyu tries to touch Heeju and Heeju, who has a boyfriend, leaves the office refusing him. Heeju sues Seonggyu for sexual harrassment at work, but the police investigation results are unfavorable for Heeju. In fact, Sunggyu submitted CCTV recordings of when they were in good terms, as well as the financial status of Heeju stating that she has some loan to pay off. The colleagues start talking behind her back and the vicious rumor makes the situation even worse for her. Heeju is no longer considered a victim but the offender, and begins her difficult struggle.

“The Korean Dream” is about a migrant worker who sacrificed 18 years of his life in struggle to fulfill his influence in the Korean society. Likewise, the dreams of many migrant workers have ended with disappointments, the dream of main character. Therefore it’s an attempt to show how human rights have been dominated and exploited under the name of government. Furthermore, it’s about broken dreams of those migrant workers that were forced to be in exile or under detention.

​Seung-woo, who is a 20-year veteran rock musician, forms a band named ‘The Monotones’. But the first vocal’s skill was below standard, and the second vocal has been cast in a new soap opera. Finally they meet the third vocal, Sae-young. But Sae-young leaves the band, because his personality is not compatible with Seung-woo. The remaining members try to find a new vocal, but it is hard to find a good vocal at that time. Seung-woo decides to perform without vocal. It is his last effort to keep the band ‘The Monotones’. Through The Monotones’ rooftop concert without vocal, they come to realize that this is where they should be, and they remember when they first began.
