Annie Girardot selon son cœur

A gifted student, Annie Girardot thought for a while of becoming a nurse, before passing the entrance exam to the Conservatory. She leaves with two first prizes in comedy. In the theater she triumphed in "The Typewriter" by Jean Cocteau. It was Cocteau who made her cut her hair to adopt his famous short cut. The cinema opened its doors and she turned with Pierre Fresnay, then with Jean Gabin, in "Le rouge est mis" by Gilles Grangier. The Comédie-Française then asked her to make a choice. It would be the cinema.

Manufacturing Ignorance

Tobacco, climate change, pesticides,... Never has scientific knowledge seemed so vast, detailed and shared. And yet it appears to be increasingly challenged. It is no longer surprising to see private corporations put strategies in place to confuse the public debate and paralyze political decision-making. Overwhelmed by excess of information, how can we, as citizens, sort out fact from fiction? One by one, this film dismantles the workings of this clever manoeuvre that aims to turn science against itself. Thanks to declassified archives, graphic animations and testimonies from experts, lobbyists and politicians, this investigation plunges us into the science of doubt. Along with a team of experts (philosophers, economists, cognitive scientists, political men, or even agnotologists), we explore concrete examples of doubt making and try to understand the whole process and the issues behind it.

Before She Forgets Heliopolis

My family have begun to forget their Egyptian roots and, on asking my grandmother Malo to recount the first part of her life in Cairo, I am confronted by the memories of an exiled Arabic woman, lost in a troubled sea of memories, soon to be erased by the passage of time. I start a tour to trace her steps and understand who she is, and therefore who we are. An Egypt appears where her past, my imaginings and the present Heliopolis mix together as night falls.

Love Hurts

Sam is a shy, mysterious and inconspicuous teenage girl, who falls in love with Troy, leader of an ultraviolent teenage gang, who does not feel physical pain, nor knows what love is. Together, against everyone and everything, they will face a series of obstacles trying to separate them, meanwhile figuring out what love and pain are. Debuting at Curtas, French filmmaker Elsa Rysto presents a love story mediated by ultraviolence, in a modern variation on the classic story of Bonnie and Clyde – or of the more contemporary Mickey and Mallory from “Natural Born Killers”. “Love Hurts” is a simple yet sensitive narrative about the so-called growing pains.
