The Poem, My Old Mother

In a small rural village in Jeollanam-do, senior ladies learn to read and write from Mrs. Kim at a 'Sall Library at the Road,' a community library and learning center. When they were young, they couldn't go to school because their families were poor. Getting married, they couldn't make time for their education while raising their children and supporting family. After the long and suffering years, they finally have an opportunity for education, a chance to tell their stories with their own words. Their beautiful works were published as a book in 2016. The documentary follows the senior poets' daily lives as they write about their lives of joy, laughter, tears, and happiness.

Sanda

What are labor movement leaders of the 1980s and ’90s doing today, 20 years later? This film begins with the daily lives of four middle-aged Korea Telecom laborer “ajussis.” They “live,” hanging off of utility poles, making repairs below manholes, eating lonely meals of soup and rice, making sales, and getting on the red-eye train once a week to see their families. They are within us and among our neighbors, quietly living day by day. But the moment they start talking, what they do becomes more than just “living.” That’s because they have all dreamed of a world for laborers, fighting against Korea Telecom’s unfair layoff program, in the past, present and future.

With This Thou Wilt Not Perish

The upper stream of Hongjecheon has a long history. This region has been called different names in different eras. Its namesakes have been buildings in nearby areas, all of which now disappeared; places like the Shinyoung Shopping Complex, which was dismantled; Baeksukdongcheon, an area now under restoration plan; Segumjeong, an already-restored building. Buildings are not the only objects of restoration. The history of Segumjeong and Hongjecheon was also restored. Perhaps everything the film shows may be a kind of restoration

A Dreaming Butterfly

One night while his wife is out of town, someone keeps knocking on the door. The knocker doesn't reveal him or herself so Tae-gyu opens the door to find a woman who looks just like his wife, standing there. No, this woman looks just like his wife but she is wearing thick and heavy make up, has blonde hair and is wearing torn and ripped clothes. She's more decadent than his sentimental wife. After she's gone, Tae-gyu suffers every night from a nightmare in which he is being raped by an unknown figure and is confused if that is reality or just a dream. When the femme fatale comes back, Tae-gyu feels his wife's scent from her and is sure she is his wife by the look in her eyes. When she looks at him, he sees deep sadness. He knows that she wants him to kill himself when she hands him a knife so he stabs himself in the neck. Tae-gyu is dead, but it isn't over.
