Endarchiv

Endarchiv examines the symbolic process of disposal and forgetting while raising the question how to take care of the emotional and performative remains of the GDR and its oppositional movements. The film maker Anna Zett is seen spray painting short questions and statements onto large mounds of pebble gravel, where every step leads to a rockslide. The action is interspersed with found footage filmed by Klaus Freymuth, showing demonstrators writing and painting onto the East side of the Berlin Wall shortly after the border was opened in November 1989.

Guadeloupe, from Summits to Ocean

There is a land nestled in the middle of the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea: Guadeloupe. From the summits of the island to the luxuriant forests, passing by rivers, swamps, beaches and mangroves, the diversity of landscapes and ecosystems offers a wide variety of spectacular panoramas. Even if it is very frequented by tourists and has many inhabited areas, the island of Guadeloupe is also the land of a discreet, almost invisible people: the animals. They knew how to find their place, near or far from humans. We know of their existence. We have sometimes seen them; we have often been close to them. But rarely really approached. From the summits of the island to the depths of the ocean that surrounds it, this 100% wildlife film takes us to the most remarkable animals of Guadeloupe.

Wings of Kyrgyzstan

As „wings of men“ they became the faithful companion of a great nomadic nation thousands of years ago. Today, 28 years after the Soviet occupation, the little horse is an essential part of the cultural heritage and the search for identity of the modern Kyrgyz people. Based on its own story, a so called „good brown horse“ leads through the film and offers an insight of what it could mean to be „todays wings of men“. Told by a horse’s voice and through its eyes, this short film still is a documentary, but also a poetic journey to a nomadic culture.

Dans les ruines

After the death of her father, Selina Weber seeks refuge in Pompei, a city still crossed by phantoms of those struck by the eruption of Vesuvius two thousand years ago. He had filmed her as a child, as a teenager. She had filmed him in the prime of life. In her thoughts, images of their trips surface—brilliant and precious fragments of summers spent together—but also those of the illness, in the cold light of the hospital. Filmed archives and streams of consciousness seem to become one.

Bitte nach Mitte!

The documentary sketches the essence and impact, history and present of the Berlin drama school "Ernst Busch". It takes the move of the school in 2018 as an opportunity to capture the contradictions between artistic and economic interests in post-reunification Berlin and in the present. After the end of the GDR, the school was threatened with extinction: the building was dilapidated, Berlin was broke, the search for a new location threatened to fail. The students themselves finally fought their way to the new location under the motto "Bitte nach Mitte!" ("Let’s move to the center").

The Bird Lady

This adventure invites us to enter the heart of a story, which Daniel, a now retired drawing teacher, told us concerning a brief but striking encounter which occurred in Paris, in 1967. When an asset manager asked him to draw up a plan of a 16th-century building in the heart of Paris, he went into the flat of an enthusiastic collector of birds, nicknamed “The Bird Lady”. Her home was an exotic enchantment of birds either flying around freely or in refined cages. The more Daniel explored it, the less he felt that he was in Paris.
