Battle at Liu-hua Bridge

About the way of life in the East, in China, during the months before spring. An early spring.

Set in 1950s, just after the launch of first Marriage Law of PRC. People in a village of Shandong Province, argue and dispute the problem of freedom of love.

Lee (Ng Cho-fan), who is the retired jewel thief the Black Cat Burglar, is suspected by the police in a string of burglaries. As a Cantonese ripoff of Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief (1955), this remake does not have the beautiful scenery from the French Riviera but is full of economical wonders. Director Wong Hang employs westernised filmmaking troops to enhance the film, making it outstanding from other Cantonese films of the same time. From high society gatherings to a hide-and-seek in a masquerade, the film demonstrates not only an elegant style but the versatility and adaptability of Cantonese films. Unlike Cary Grant, Ng Cho-fan manifests himself with a mysterious and artistic aura.

It describes that textile workers were brutally oppressed and exploited by capitalists and Kuomintang reactionaries in the old society. After liberation, they raised their class consciousness, showed their labor enthusiasm in labor competition, and created wealth for the country. At the same time criticize conservative and backward thinking and bureaucracy.

An absorbing example of genre filmmaking in the People’s Republic of China, Husband and Wife could at first glance be mistaken for any other romantic melodrama chronicling the rise and decline of a married couple’s love; here, though, that love takes place in (and is entirely defined by) a realm of political upheaval and Maoist ideology. A Shanghai intellectual marries an illiterate peasant woman–turned–collectivist hero, with outcomes both universal (differences emerge) and specific (revolutionary self-critiques). At first a popular hit, the film (and Zheng himself) was soon critically attacked for counterrevolutionary, pro-bourgeois thought. Precious Daughter follows the couple's story even after their marriage. With the help of her caring mother, rich girl who is mute manages to marry the man of her dreams. However, their marriage soon runs into difficulties because of her inability to please her demanding sister-in-law. While the heroine regaining her voice leads to catastrophe for the hero in the original play, the two films celebrate the return of their heroines' voices with song and dance – thanks to the popularity of musicals at the time.

"Toward a New China" tells the story of Chang Weiliang, a metallurgical engineer studying in the United States who was shattered in 1945 under the rule of the Kuomintang. His ideal of industrial salvation was shattered. After liberation, he saw that technicians were not respected. He was unhappy, not active, and could not see the power of the working class. Military representatives helped him raise his awareness. On October 1, 1949, New China was founded, and Engineer Chang and the workers became the masters of New China.

After the Liberation, workers organize under CCP leadership to improve production standards.

The Head of Southern Stone Village, Lee Ba-hung bullies others with his power. Yet he has no knowledge that his niece Lee Chun-hong is actually the Black Heroine who confronts him. Ba-hung would like to murder Chung-hong by hanging, yet it ends in him being killed by his followers.

A cute, white rabbit looking for food finds what turns out a giant radish, but he cannot pull it out himself. Only with the help of many others, including a monkey, a pig and a bear, is the rabbit able to achieve his goal: Together we preserve.

Before liberation, Zhang Genbao came to a small town in eastern Zhejiang with his mother to learn art from the old tailor Liu Jinfa. Liu Jinfa had a daughter named Fengying, who lived a peaceful life together as a teacher and apprentice.
