A Canterbury Trail

BBC producer/director David Thompson follows a group of admirers of the film A Canterbury Tale (1944) on their annual location walk in 2005. As this was the year of the centenary of the birth of director Michael Powell the location walk included visits to a lot of the places around Canterbury where Powell grew up. The documentary includes interviews with walk organizers Paul Tritton and Steve Crook as well as with various other people there. Some of the scenes from the film are re-created with people on the walk reading out the lines from scenes filmed at those locations 60+ years ago.

Execution of a Teenage Girl

On 15 August 2004, a 16-year-old girl was hanged in a public square in Neka, a small Iranian town by the Caspian Sea. Atefeh Sahaaleh's death sentence was for "crimes against chastity". Despite Iran being a signatory to an international convention that promises not to sentence to death or execute those under 18, permission was obtained from Iran's Supreme Court by the local mullah and head of the city's administration to do exactly that. Eyewitness accounts and dramatic reconstructions, plus undercover filming in Atefah's hometown tell the powerful story of the life and tragic death of an ordinary girl.

David Gilmour - London 1984

David Gilmour — Pink Floyd writer, singer, and guitarist extraordinaire — in a hard-rocking 1984 solo concert. This powerful show is drawn from the benchmark tour when David fully established himself as an independent artist, with his own voice — even as he was poised to take Pink Floyd into the future. Shot with great professionalism, this state-of-the-art film reveals sides of David Gilmour's music that Floyd fans were only then becoming aware of. Largely focused on the second David Gilmour solo album "About Face," songs include a number of Gilmour originals: "Until We Sleep," "Out Of The Blue," "Blue Light," and others — in moods ranging from tight, searing hard rock to contemplative folk-rock. Recorded live April 30, 1984 at the Hammersmith Odeon, London

PJ Harvey on Tour: Please Leave Quietly

Filmed during the tour for 2004’s Uh Huh Her (and directed by longtime collaborator Mochnacz), Please Leave Quietly intermixes live footage with backstage antics, street scenes, buggered sound checks and impromptu commentary from tour personnel and bandmates. Often interspliced and edited to a near distracting degree, the live performances are riveting, with Polly Jean displaying a venomous allure in her Oz-red high heels and short-skirted dresses.
