A young provincial has come to Paris to study Chinese. From a modest background, he has to do odd jobs to survive, finding accommodation as best he can in a furnished room where he is hardly free. Not being wealthy, he has solved his travel problems by getting a tandem, which, in the streets of Paris, is rather rare. Eccentric, unpredictable but tender, Georges, known as "Guidon Futé", falls in love with one of his classmates from Langues Orientales.

Marcel is his garage's handyman. With the smell of grease and petrol wafting through the air, alternating between night watchman, petrol pump attendant and confidant, he is visited every evening by the slightly lost night owls who pass by. They all confide in him about their daily troubles.

Tired of the daily life she leads, a young woman decides to leave everything and run away from civilization. It is slow, succinct and absolutely riveting. With his photojournalist's eye, and simple but inspired camera work, Depardon plunges us into both the sounds and silences of a day and a night in the city.

In 1939 a French policeman (Jacques Martin) is forgotten on a Polynesian island, during an administrative tour. When war broke out, he knew nothing about it and it was only when a German ship called that he learned of the gravity of the events. On the tone of comedy, this drama describes the relationship between this ex-policeman still imbued with administrative stupidity and the naive but joyful population of the island. The comedy prevails over the drama and the gendarme will not take long to acquire the joie de vivre of the natives.

Like reading the book by flashes of lightning was how one writer described the relationship of Berlioz to Goethe in this Dramatic Legend, his way of shaping twenty scenes selected from the story into a narrative in four parts. Though it has sometimes been staged, the works drama is to be found within the music itself, which illuminates the incidents with what the conductor Sir Thomas Beecham once called a bunch of the loveliest tunes in existence.

"I found that soundtrack abandonned on a shelf in an editing room. It had been hanging about there for a few weeks before I decided to listen to it. There you are, carefully cellotaped in the correct order of the editing rushes, claps, cuts and wrong frames of a film I don’t know anything about. That soudtrack immediatly appealed to me. Its discontinuary and fragmentary aspect, nevertheles made sense, was a sort of transcription in the world of sounds of what had been so for visual in my other films. Moreover, its contents made of sentences or scenes only just introduced or repeated, of questions about identity and the body, the coming in and out of the characters, scenes of seduction and violence, all that mixture permanently interrupted by the unknown director that give his orders : "Ready ! Motor ! Action !" in short, all this gave the film a mysterious and imaginary atmosphere." Christian Lebrat (Dedicated to Marcel Duchamp)

The death of a mother transforms the lives of her family. Her husband treats her son Henri harshly, and her daughter, who is hospitalized, refuses to eat. Henri is tormented and lonely. To prove himself, he decides to participate in the region's annual race. Faced with numerous obstacles, both physical and psychological, Henri will have to show courage to achieve victory.
