Sannari

Deep in the mountains, a gold-rayed lily (Sannari) is in bloom in front of a dark cave. The red lily looks hideous in the middle of deep greens. It beckons to people to come over and see it so as to learn about peace. Sannari tells you to ‘look aside, not far from you,’ ‘look at the half of people who got sacrificed by anti-communist ideology,’ and says that ‘I am your wound,’ ‘How can you coexist with North Koreans, unless you accept even me.’ Peace begins with this enlightenment.

The Roar

The film peers through the conditions of different social groups and their accusation, compromization, and pondering over their lives from the perspective of a taxi driver Huang and presents different issues in his daily family life; describing the disturbance from his wife’s point of view about the money and the marriage and all the absurd but real situation like how she turned to friend and god when facing difficulties; depicting his daughter’s troubles from the school, her boyfriend, her pregnancy and how she dealt with them in a seemingly mature but actually naive way. The driver, his wife, and his daughter held their own secrets until he came across a robbery, smashing the peaceful illusion of his family and tempting the improper thought inside him.

Korean Schools in Japan

In 1948, after the Japan’s defeat, the General Headquarters and Japanese government ordered that the Chosen gakko, schools for Koreans in Japan,ō be shut down. Koreans in Osaka strongly resisted, and 16-year-old Kim Taeil was even shot and killed by the police. This was the Hanshin Education Incident. 70 years have passed, but the Japanese oppression continues. They've removed the Chosen gakkoō from being eligible for free education. Gaining strength from the growing hatred from the conservatives, the Abe administration is misusing the educational issue as a means to cause political strife. In the midst of ongoing conflicts in Japan, nonfiction writer KO Chanyu has directed Korean Schools in Japan, compiling a history of the Koreans' fight for education.
