Supported by the Paulo Gustavo Law (LPG) for the promotion of art and culture, this documentary film explores the question of how the residents of Ouro Preto, beyond its Historic Center, connect with the city’s cultural and historical legacy. In this sense, the work amplifies the voices and perceptions of individuals and everyday lives that transcend the tourist axis, helping to unveil the subtle dynamics that shape identity and a sense of belonging in vibrant, yet not always visible, territories.

Jane, a young truck driver, finds herself stranded in Magé after her vehicle breaks down on the highway. While searching for a mechanic, she crosses paths with a local philosophy professor. Brought together by chance, the two embark on a journey through the city, exploring its historical landmarks and points of interest. As they travel through Magé, their conversations become a reflection of their own existential journeys. Between deep conversations and unexpected discoveries, traumas, fears, and anxieties surface, revealing invisible connections between two strangers. More than a simple search for a repair, this journey becomes an experience of self-discovery, where philosophy, affection, and friendship intertwine in the eternal search for the true meaning of life.

Through the boiling of a pot, we’re led into an honest portrait of the human condition — the feeling of exile, the tension between perfection and imperfection, the individuality of existence, and the disconnection within collective life. Anteface is, in a few words, the curious capture of a human moan muffled by masks.
