Clinging to the middle of the mountain like so many spiders, a dozen filmmakers and mountain guides busy themselves above the abyss to film Christophe Profit's ascent of Le Dru. Little by little, the director finds himself dreaming of the tranquil seaside holidays he might have had, like so many other nice people.

This documentary goes back to the origins of the conflict in Western Sahara. The reasons for the Moroccan occupation of this vast territory are economic: the region has mineral (phosphate, uranium, iron) and fishing resources. Spain occupied part of the territory from the end of the 19th century until the 20th century, with the support of France. The Sahrawi people have always fought against colonists; the Polisario Front was created in 1973 with the purpose of fighting Spanish occupation. The Sahrawi cause is supported by Algeria, which recognized the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in 1976, and Libya in 1980. We see the social organisation of the Saharawis, an originally nomadic people. The film ends by posing a question: What are the prospects for resolving the conflict?

This production of Giuseppi Verdi's opera based on Macbeth, the famed play by William Shakespeare, is a musical succès d'estime but falls short in the cinematic arena. Shirley Verrett stars as the murderous and ambitious Lady Macbeth, Leo Nucci co-stars as her similarly ambitious but slightly more scrupulous husband, who has the good grace to feel some horror at his deeds before he does them. The entire opera was filmed inside a Belgian castle, and some of the smaller parts are obviously lip-synched to pre-recorded music.

A postman in a small mountain village finds a woman and her son both dead in the "grotte aux loups" (cave of wolves). He soon begins to realize than it's not natural death, and that someone in the village in behind their murder, while tragic events occur.

Doctor Fournier arrives in Beirut as the civil war is raging. He finds himself with a colleague working in a hospital controlled by a Shiite militia and treating the injured. Driven by his doctor’s oath, he crosses the demarcation line to treat Christian casualties of the ongoing clashes. This causes Muslims in his neighborhood to brand him a traitor. He is kidnapped to be exchanged for a fighter captured by Christian militiamen. The film is part of the TV series *Médecins des hommes *(*Doctors of men*). It was considered the best movie in the series.

A coming of age story about two great friends during the school years whose friendship is truly tested when one of the boys start to develop different feelings for the other. At first, it seems Philippe and Claude are just experimenting new sensations, everything is pure curiosity to them. But total reciprocity isn't the name of the game and Philippe is clearly infatuated with his friend.

In this documentary, Sarah Maldoror offers a portrait of the Mexican painter Vlady (1920-2005, born Vladimir Kibaltchich), filming mainly his works with voice-over commentary by the artist himself, answering the filmmaker's questions.

It is the poetic chronicle of a city: Paris. A city critique, but a good natured one (the declaration of intention is bloody : Cities are illegal slaughterhouses). The experimental reality of everyday life is explored with insight and humour through improbable dialogues between pigeons, statues, and even a tap and a washbowl! There is on the one hand, the individual at home, grappling with its walls (which are fully fledged characters in this film) and on the other hand, we see the outside world composed of the rhythms and colours of daily urban activities. A mixture of special effects, animation, features reworked into montage, and realism consolidates the fantastic, bizarre and ironic style of the film. M. Mazé

This revealing documentary offers a rare view of daily life in West Africa. Shot in Senegal, Selbe focuses on the social role and economic responsibility of women in African society. Because men often leave their communities to earn money in the city, women are left with sole responsibility for their families. Through the character of Selbe we observe how one woman's personal struggle reflects the broader issues faced by many women in developing countries.

In Quebec 40s, orphans or abandoned children are placed in a gigantic psychiatric hospital where children were locked. Were they sick? No, they simply had no family. To escape this oppressive universe, they created a parallel world: the institution's basement where, in a maze of tunnels, they founded an independent company, with its rituals, spells. A young girl, Agnes, reigns over this underground world that adults seem to tolerate.

Since 1915, the French satirical newspaper Le Canard Enchaîné has maintained and even strengthened its position in the press, without losing any of its wit or bite. This multi-part documentary recounts the history (53 min.) of the newspaper, when Maurice Maréchal decided to fight against the propaganda of the mainstream press, beholden to lobbies and the powerful. It features portraits (45 min.) of some of the newspaper's journalists and cartoonists. Its traditions (34 min.) are deeply rooted and faithfully upheld in the spirit of irreverence, insolence, and freedom in the face of all forms of power. The documentary also delves into the scandals (40 min.): if "Le Canard" was able to launch investigative journalism in France, it is because it has remained "free, independent, and clean," as its founder intended, thus retaining the trust of its readers.

Otto Schenk’s brilliant production captures both the dark romanticism of the story as well as its fairy-tale magic. It is a superb setting for Neil Shicoff’s vivid portrayal of the tortured poet Hoffmann, as he recounts the loves of his life and the way he has been foiled by his nemesis—a marvelous James Morris in a tour-de-force performance of the opera’s four villains. Gwendolyn Bradley is the doll Olympia, Tatiana Troyanos sings the courtesan Giulietta, and Roberta Alexander portrays the innocent Antonia.

"Composed recurrence" is a rough translation of Retour d'un repère composé as one loses the "point of reference" aspect concerning "repère".
