Nightmare is a 1953 Hong Kong thriller film written and directed by Yin Wang. The film was produced by Runde Shaw for Shaw and Sons.

On March 11 in the seventh year of Tenpo (1836), a monk named Bennō, who fell in love with a geisha named Oshima, was publicly exposed at Nihonbashi for committing an illicit act with a woman. While this was happening, an extravagant procession led by another monk named Nikkei passed over the bridge. Nikkei, the head of the Kanouin temple, in collusion with Nakano Harima-no-Kami, had schemed to make his younger sister, Miyoshi, the Shogun's mistress and aimed to transform Kanouin into the Shogun's family temple. To fund the renovations, Nikkei accepted bribes from a corrupt merchant named Koya Bunzo.

A Hong Kong historical drama

A conflict between two yakuza families in Tokyo, the Izus and the Yoshidas, has recently broken out. When an Izu underling starts a fight with a Yoshida man, Fuyu, the Izu family sends Tsuruta, a senior member of the clan, to make a personal apology to Fuyu. Tsuruta discovers that the woman he is in love with is Fuyu's sister, Tatsuko. Tsuruta ends up gambling with a swindler, who is in fact Tatsuko's husband. (The general plot of the film was re-used for Seijun Suzuki's Kanto Wanderer).

A fortune-teller tells Ng Sze-tak that his days are numbered. His friend Chu Tai-fat is told that he will soon win a lottery. Soon, Chu's prediction comes true. Ng lives his days in terror until he realises that everything is but a false alarm.

A samurai is struggling to make ends meet at the end of the Edo period. He has students and, among other things, teaches them about the evils of the government. A member of the yakuza thugs has fallen in love with the samurai's daughter and conspires to report the father to the authorities in order to snatch the girl. The samurai's daughter has a boyfriend who hides the father and daughter from the thug.

Fusako, a girl raised in a geisha house, tries to escape her dark past and faces repeated heartbreaks. After an unexpected pregnancy, she has an abortion and decides to start a new life away from the geisha world.

Bo's mother hides the bracelet in a chair. Later, Wah resides at Bo's home. To flatter Wah, Bo wants to get the bracelet by any means from his mother and give it to Wah. Later, Bo's mother falls ill. In the hospital, she tells Bo of the bracelet's whereabouts but the chair has already been sold to Uncle Chan by Wah. Bo, Wah and Yuen stealthily enter Chan's home to get the chair, but have a big fight when they try to take the bracelet. Knowing that Bo has huge debts, Wah intends to leave him after getting the bracelet. Wah exposes her gluttonous self in her pursuit of the treasure. Bo learns his lesson and returns to his wife.

The Wolf of Davao, a death row inmate who escaped from prison to exact revenge on Yamanami Takuzo, who betrayed his former comrade, kidnaps Dr. Shoda, a leading orthopedic surgeon, and disfigures his own face. In an attempt to save Yamanami, who has now reformed and is living a peaceful life, private detective Aji Yahachi falls in love with Yamanami's daughter, Yoko of Valerina, during their great adventures with his assistant Gomi. The disfigured wolf's face looks just like Aji's, so Aji disguises himself as the wolf and rescues Dr. Shoda from their den, but the wolf disguises himself as a detective and breaks into the Yamanami residence. With Aji's help and the police's help, the wolf is cornered on the edge of a cliff with Yoko dragged along after a fierce chase, but commits suicide when he finds out that she is actually his child. Although he is heartbroken by Yoko, Aji has won the love of Shoda's daughter.
