The Nine Lakh Stars

Loubna Régragui is above all a film preservationist who also makes films. One needs to put it like that to understand some of the energies that animate The Nine Lakh Stars, which was the search for acceptable analogue elements of Maṇi Kaul’s high-modernist masterpiece Duvidha (1973) whose soul, she thinks, was erased by its digital mastering. Which is an interesting question to ponder apropos of a film that tells the story of a ghost, who incarnates a young bride’s absent husband... Is the digital the ghost of the analogue?

Secte du temple solaire - Vercors londe de choc

On December 23, 1995, the discovery of sixteen charred bodies in a small village in the Vercors region of France caused a real trauma that marked the inhabitants and, more broadly, the French. It was the first time that followers of a sect, in this case the Order of the Solar Temple, committed suicide in France. This led the authorities to create an interministerial mission to fight against cults, which would become Miviludes. The investigation of the tragedy avoids another tragedy in the Canary Islands and shows everyone the danger of cults.

Arnaques, fric et politique : le vrai business des influenceurs

For weeks, a real media war opposes Booba, the millionaire rapper, to the influential agent Magali Berdah and his influencers. The artist accuses of fraud several of these stars of social networks. The influencers have become the idols of teenagers, who follow their adventures on their smartphones. On their accounts, they expose their lives, their looks and their silhouettes in Miami or Dubai. And to earn money, they turn into sandwich men and women, thanks to product placement. Brands pay up to 10,000 euros for a few seconds of video. Because this universe generates millions of euros, from which influencers, TV producers or agents profit. Among them, a woman crushes the competition, Magali Berdah. The powerful boss of Shauna Events agreed to open her doors.

Lien Sociaux

“Lien Sociaux” follows Benoît, a lonely teenager trying to make friends at his new high school. He connects with Arthur and Henry, two popular students, but soon discovers their true nature when they begin bullying Nadège, a vulnerable classmate. Disturbed by their cruelty, Benoît distances himself and finds himself alone once more. Refusing to remain silent, he embarks on a personal journey to understand their behavior and try to bring about change. Through Benoît’s struggle, the film thoughtfully explores the complexity of teenage social dynamics, the pressure to conform, marginalization, and the deep need for belonging. It also examines the double-edged role of social media — as a tool for connection and exclusion alike. Between toxic friendship and moral courage, Social Bonds offers a human and honest look at what ties us together… and what drives us apart.

Pierre Pinoncelli, l’artiste à la phalange coupée

Since his two attacks with a hammer against Marcel Duchamp's urinal in 1993 and again in 2006, the artist Pierre Pinoncelli is known worldwide for this iconoclastic and subversive act. Often misinterpreted by the press, this double performance, and the trials that followed it, overshadowed the rest of his work: his paintings from the 1960s, and the many powerful happenings he made. Pinoncelli sprayed André Malraux with red paint in 1969, robbed a bank to protest apartheid in 1975, and mutilated himself in 2002 to denounce FARC violence in Colombia. Often motivated by political demands, Pinoncelli went to the end of his ideas and expressed himself through often shocking gestures, which question us.

Pierre Guyotat, le don de soi

Pierre Guyotat at home, between 2002 and 2009: scenes from a writer’s life. First he organises his library : each book is an occasion for comments, reminiscences, questionnings. Then he is seen at work, preparing an edition of his Notebooks with his assistant, based on manuscripts from the 1960s. He is finally seen in his room, sitting in bed, discoursing on french kings and working out a text out loud, in a hypnotic self-dictation. Because Pierre Guyotat offers himself unrestrainedly to Jacques Kébadian’s attentive filming, this most precious of films gives us a rare glimpse into a writer’s intimacy: into his labour and passion. 13 novembre 2015 : anatomie d'une instruction

On November 13, 2015, ten months after the attacks on Charlie Hebdo and the Hyper Cacher at the Porte de Vincennes, three jihadist commandos, divided between the Stade de France, the Bataclan and the terraces of the 10th and 11th districts of Paris, spread death in the capital. How were these men, mostly French and Belgian, some of them actively sought, able to cross Europe and carry out their plans without being worried? Faced with the loopholes revealed by the attacks, fourteen European countries, supported by Europol and Eurojust, the EU's police and judicial cooperation agencies, pooled information and resources on an unprecedented scale to identify and track down the culprits, accomplices and sponsors of these attacks.

The Despair of the Monkeys

The first films of Patagonia - where I grew up - show a territory that no longer exists, as the araucarias, millenary trees from the Patagonian forests, were in part replaced by more productive pines. Near my new home, in Belgium, I find araucarias that adorn front gardens. We hear some girls playing in the car, pointing out araucarias on the road. How did these plants become a petty-bourgeois fashion in northern Europe? I confront these archives with contemporary technoscientific images, used by a lab to explore plant modifications. What can these modes of representation tell us about our time?

Le tour d'un monde

By his own admission, Damien Faure possesses an impressive quantity of images and films, sometimes exploited in other ways, sometimes simply left unused, and forgotten on film that was gathering dust. These archives have patiently waited to be brought back to life in this documentary, in which this travel-loving director presents an anthology of sequences shot in the four corners of the planet, from Japan to the Arctic, via India. Through the discovery of these stories collected here and there and then meticulously assembled, he wishes to offer a different vision of the contemporary world.

Darkness, Darkness, Burning Bright

Handmade and uniquely personal, this 16mm film in two parts explores a rural landscape with mythical connotations. First part: prelude. “Darkness, darkness, burning bright In the forests of the night. Vast flowered paths, fresh branches, Groves full of perfumes, birds and whispers, Site often seen again, and always contemplated....” Second part: oraison. “Darkness, darkness, burning bright In the forests of the night And the mad impulse of this distraught soul, And that had, the forehead circled in copper, under the moon….”

Homosexualité : la fin du placard

On August 4, 1982, after a bitter parliamentary struggle, homosexuality ceased to be an offence in France. It was the realization of a campaign promise by François Mitterrand. For four decades, homosexuals had been confined to the disavowal of their entourage, to clandestinity and to police harassment, and now they can finally live in the open. It took more than 15 years of struggles, heated debates and demonstrations to rally intellectuals and politicians to their cause. Activists, ministers and parliamentarians testify to their commitment to overcome the last barriers of a hostile society.

L'ombre des pères

The film follows men over several years who reach the age their father was when he died. Among these men are Cyrill Renaud, the son of filmmaker Renaud Victor, who carries the weight of an interrupted work, and Cyril Casmèze, a zoomorphic acrobat who has made working with animality a mode of protection and survival. It is an exploration of grief over the long term, a story of fathers and sons, but also a story of mothers and sons. When the father is gone, the relationship to the mother changes. The film is constructed in two chapters. One that looks back on the brutality of the loss and the trauma, the other that opens up the future, the transformation, the rebirth, now that these men have outgrown their father and allow themselves to live. A third man, Loup, joins them. He too has lost his father and "being a father in turn" has been a way to move forward.
