The Haven

Police detective Jacques Laniel's life becomes a nightmare the day drive-by shootists gun down his partner Thomas Colin. His colleagues make matters worse by blaming him for the death, and after his wife leaves him, Laniel decides to quit the force and launch a private investigation into Colin's murder. Soon afterward, Laniel finds the bullet-riddled body of famed author and literature professor Zachary Osborne tied to his car hood. The professor's wife hires Laniel to solve the murder, but what the detective finds is ugly: Osborne was a part of a lucrative land-speculation deal that involved the sale of a crumbling old rectory that had been turned into a halfway house called the Haven of the Monsters. The name is apt, for all the residents are convicted killers who were given inordinately light sentences. When Lanier starts questioning the Haven's tenants and their crimes are revealed via flashback, it takes on the character of a David Lynch production.

Massoud the Afghan

The friendship between Christophe de Ponfilly and Commander Massoud, a legendary figure of the Afghan resistance against the Soviet invader, goes back to the filmmaker's first film, "A Valley Against an Empire", made in 1981. Fifteen years later, weakened, isolated, betrayed by many of his own, the "Lion of Panshir" has not surrendered to his new and implacable enemies, the Taliban. While preparing his next offensive, he evokes his commitment and his fights, and bears witness to a history in which he has been one of the main actors for twenty years. At the same time, the director questions the role and power of the media, as well as his own approach as a filmmaker. Commander Massoud was killed in an attack in September 2001.

Since the death of their parents, while they were still teenagers, Jéremie and Maxime live alone together in an old manor at the edge of the sea. It's the sole remaining link with their family roots. Over the years, Jéremie, taking on the role of big brother and father, has continually looked after Maxime, who is still affected by the accident. Like wounded galloping horses, they have to face their destiny and confront death in order to recover their identity and be at peace with themselves.

Djabote, Doudou N'Diaye Rose

This film is the result of a passion shared between Béatrice Soulé and Eric Serra, music composer of The Big Blue, for the exceptional talent of Doudou N'Diaye Rose, percussionist and rhythm teacher at the National Art Institute of Dakar. It was crucial for them to keep a track of the rhythm of the major drum leader of Senegal and they organized in the Island of Gnor a concert that this film restores us. Under the small amphitheater made of stone, the great virtuoso give us to see and listen to a great moment of joy because Doudou N'Diaye Rose dances as much as he drums. And for the fifty percussionists and one hundred members of the Julien Jouge's church choir, this is also the celebration of the bodies.

Papa est un mirage

Philippe is a movie star on the comeback trail. He shoots a film in Morocco, which will allow him to find the top of the bill. But nothing goes right, his partner, Alexi, breaks his arm during the shooting of a scene. Later, a phone call puts him in all his states: Julie, his ex-wife, who is a scriptwriter, asks him to keep their young films, Mathias and Victor. She has to go to Hollywood where she is nominated for an Oscar. Philippe is furious, but agrees to receive them in Morocco. Always absent, he does not know his children well. They have the (false) impression that their father does not love them. So, they do stupid things. And when a set catches fire, Philippe is certain that his children are responsible for the fire.

Antonio returned to Portugal ten years ago with his lovely (and quite thin) French wife. She has since become quite a hefty specimen of womanhood, and his eye has lately been wandering to others. When his strong-tempered wife catches him with another woman (their neighbor), she bonks him on the head. In order to avoid further embarrassment, he pretends this has induced amnesia. He does so well in his pretense that his worried wife calls his old Parisian buddies (the rest of the Charlots) and asks them to come and help revive his memory.

The Diary of Lady M

She's a beautiful gifted performer, but her work is not the sort that invites popular acclaim. Despite the fact that she is unlikely to become famous, she enjoys her life as a performer who lives just outside the mainstream. Awaiting her backstage one evening is a Spanish painter who has seen her show and wants to make her acquaintance. They walk around Paris getting to know one another, and then the painter returns to Spain. Something about the man has moved Lady M to passion: she flies to meet him in Barcelona and he shows her his beloved Catalonia. This time, however, their relationship is as much about passionate lovemaking as it is about compatibility. So smitten is Lady M with her new man that when she discovers that the painter has a black wife and child, she is only a little bit taken aback and she invites his whole family to join her in Paris. Surprisingly, they do, and the number of people sharing their love and sexual appetites changes from two to three.

Quicksand

Set in France's Carmargue area during the late 1950s, this provocative, powerful drama chronicles the labor dispute between an exploitative farmer and his newest worker, a Spanish emigrant who turns about to much more than he first appears. Manuel comes to Roger's spread in 1958 to plead for employment. Roger is impressed by the well-spoken, seemingly well-educated Manuel, who is also an excellent mechanic and gives him work and a cabin that he will share with the naïve Mouloud. Manuel turns out to be a man with a secret and when Roger learns of it, he attempts to blackmail Manuel, who in turn learns a few of Roger's secrets thereby creating a stalemate that ends tragically after the arrival of Manuel's old-time friend Antonio, who starts a fracas by leading a strike against Roger. The title refers to the deadly sand traps found within the surrounding marshes. They have already claimed the lives of two people before the story began and by its end, the traps will claim more lives.

The beautiful Parisian courtesan Marguerite Gauthier (Cristiana Réali), who is called a "Lady of The Camellia" because of the preference for these flowers, has many devotees among Parisian aristocrats. He really loves one - young Armand Duval (Michaël Cohen). Under the influence of the beloved father's pleas, and despite himself, he declares to Armand that he no longer loves him. She is suffering from tuberculosis, but if possible, she is in company, and renews contacts with rich devotees. Armand tries to forget about her. One evening, at a party, their paths cross again.
