Grounding

After the wave of #MeToo movement stories from various circles, did sexual violence survivors return to their normal lives? Finding the new 'normal' is now in the hands of those individuals. Even though the cases were closed, their memories always take them back to the past. Blighted by violence, their bodies stiffen up even with little touches. From getting out of bed, taking a shower to leaving the house, everyday is a battle with themselves. While many survivors feel they're body still remain in the past, dance therapists, choreographers and feminist activists have gathered and plan a movement workshop for trauma recovery. They feel their fingertips again and they move their toes. They re-experience inhaling and exhaling in a safe place. Threads of Time

Anamizu Town, Ishikawa Prefecture, is located in the center of the Noto Peninsula. The population is below 7,000, and the town is in the final stage of population decline, with both young people and the elderly declining. Motoyuki Takii, a former junior high school teacher, lives in a marginal village on a rough road from the center of the town, which is promoting compact cities. Since 2020, he has been publishing a handwritten newspaper, "Tsumugu," and has been sounding the alarm about profit-driven policies and the town's future. The town's traditional fishing method, "Muramachi Yagura," overlooks the calm Anamizu Bay. Patience can be said to be a part of the townspeople's character, but Takii writes, "If we do nothing, nothing will change." The Ishikawa TV crew will highlight the raison d'être of local media through the eyes of the townspeople, highlighting the distorted relationship between the town hall and the town council, where inertia and favoritism are rampant.

I am Taiwanese

The film, which took five years to make and was initiated by Senate President Vystrčil's visit to Taiwan in 2020, maps the current geopolitical situation of this island nation and seeks not only historical but mainly current parallels between Taiwan's position vis-à-vis China and Russia's position vis-à-vis smaller countries, including Ukraine, the Baltic states, and even the Czech Republic. China's pressure on Taiwan is intensifying, and this island state is increasingly under threat. Will it maintain its freedom and independence in today's complex world, where conflicts are on the rise and, with the possible help of the democratic world, it is becoming increasingly complicated?

Paws Land

For many, home is a refuge and a sanctuary; for stray animals, however, a loving home remains a distant dream. From 2019 to 2023, director Au Cheuk-man followed the non-profit organisation Paws Guardian on their harrowing missions to rescue and rehome stray animals – many of whom were abandoned, abused, or tortured. The result is a heartrending collection of stories on survival and resilience, highlighting the brutal realities faced by stray animals: of the 40 stray dogs featured in this documentary, only four ultimately found new homes.

A Real Christmas

The film conducts an elusive search for the traces of Lee Kyung Soo, a Korean War orphan adopted by a U.S. Navy officer. Lee’s image circulated widely across newspapers, magazines, and photographs—serving specific purposes and cultural narratives. Over time, these representations fractured, faded, and reemerged, leaving silences in the archive and gaps in visibility. The cut-out fragments from the scattered information are pieced together to imagine the child’s unspoken point of view throughout his wandering life.
