The Evil Eye

The sense of rituals and the manifestation of the sacred has underpinned all of Clément Cogitore's oeuvre, inspired by gatherings, communal phenomena, and the expression of beliefs of today, be they erratic or diffuse, or without a defined subject. The spread of images and the way in which they have become commonplace constitute the off-screen "narrative" of this approach: the artist confronts and responds to this with a visual intensity and a sense for storytelling that borders on the fantastic.

Couteau suisse

The story takes place in the provinces in the 1970s. The narrator, Gaspard, a 17-year-old teenager, keeps a daily account in his diary of the homophobic harassment of which he is the victim. His tormentor is a student from his high school, Georgia. She is an emancipated girl who lives in a community with her brother Francis and his biker friends. In high school, Georgia does nothing. She is judged by the school administration as a delinquent seed, a sort of neo-Nazi amazon, an irredeemable sheep who spends her recesses smoking Craven A., drinking from her silver flask with suspicious contents and reading exclusively the novels of her favorite writer: Louis-Ferdinand Céline.

Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès : dans la tête du suspect

In April 2011, relatives and neighbors of the Dupont de Ligonnès family became concerned. The shutters of the couple's home had been closed for several days. On April 21, 2011, during a search of the property, police discovered five bodies buried under the terrace: those of the mother and her four children. Only the body of the father, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, was missing. He immediately became the prime suspect in the quintuple murder. Step by step, his route is traced. Soon, the fugitive's trail goes cold. His last sign of life dates back to April 15, 2011, when he spent the night in a hotel in Var. Since then, there has been no trace of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès. An international appeal is launched.

Quand tout le monde dort

Under the name PasSage, Ugo and his friends organize underground parties in unusual locations around Paris. The parties are, as one of them puts it, “The last place of expression for us. Truly free.” Their playful search for adventure takes them to forbidden places, the only spots left to explore in a city where every centimeter is in use. It might be a location in Versailles, an abandoned train next to a monument, a deserted military fort, or perhaps a cave. The decision is made only after an expedition with a backpack and a flashlight to explore the site and its approach routes thoroughly. Partygoers learn of the location just before the party starts, and there are strict rules for them to follow.

Sounds of the World - Mauritius

On the island of Mauritius, which belongs to Africa, musician and globetrotter Sîla meets three generations of musicians who recount the island's musical and political history with lots of music. The colonial power France once brought slaves from Madagascar and the African mainland to the island, where they had to toil on the sugar cane plantations. The slaves developed a musical style of freedom with homemade instruments – Séga. Today, this music is considered the "blues of the Indian Ocean." Different, very rhythmic styles have developed. The performers of "Séga engazé" and "Seggae" – a reggae sound – are representatives of a revolutionary music that raises its voice against oppression, racism, and violence against women. The musicians believe in the power of music as a mouthpiece for a rather voiceless island society and in its unifying element across all religious and ethnic differences.
