FRACTURED LANDSCAPE

Fractured Landscape explores a space that exists on the edges; a space between the wild and urban, between my inner self and my outer world. I find a sense of belonging in nature; a space where I can rest and return to myself, away from the restlessness of urban life and the fractious relationship I feel towards our social structures. For me, the marshland landscape embodies that personal experience. It is rich in nature, yet the urban environment is ever present, pushing at its edges. A reminder that I’ve not left that world, or that part of me, behind.

Teslaism: Economics After the End of the End of the Future

Teslaism is a 3rd person-racing musical game featuring Elon Musk and his self-driving car/lover and life coach, as they drive towards a shareholder meeting in a post-gamified Berlin landscape. The film takes the newly built Gigafactory in Berlin as a prism to describe the emergence of Teslaism (succeeding Post-Fordism) as an upgrade to the system of production and consumption predicated on advanced storytelling, financial worldbuilding, and imagineering »the look of the future«.

Hong Kong: City on Fire

Taking us from Hong Kong's 1997 handover from British rule into Chinese administrative control, all the way to 2019, when a controversial extradition bill is greeted with massive street protests, this urgent film beds in with Hong Kong's pro-democracy demonstrations, offering a frontline portrait of four young protesters through a year of struggle. We see their hopes for a freer life and feel their fears as the authorities crack down. Pulse-racing scenes bring the viewer to street level, where peaceful protest is met with fury and tear gas. Clear-eyed about the complications and contradictions that come with a movement that changed Hong Kong forever, Hong Kong: City on Fire is a brave document of troubled times.

Rob Burrow: Living with MND

Rob Burrow, one of Rugby League’s greatest players, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in late 2019. His family now care for his every need 24 hours a day. This intimate documentary starkly illustrates the love, support and challenges faced by his wife Lindsey, children Macy, Maya and Jackson, and parents Geoff and Irene. There are moments of intimacy as Lindsey takes Rob for a swim or carries him up to bed, and there are moments of humour as Rob uses his voice box to tease his mum as she feeds him. Rob is seen discussing his treatment with the NHS staff caring for him while best friend and former teammate mate Kevin Sinfield continues to rally support in Leeds, the home of Leeds Rhinos, and from the wider rugby league community.
