The Long Vacation of Lotte H. Eisner

Historian, author, and movie critic Lotte H. Eisner is the subject of this documentary. She recalls her early childhood in Germany and her association with such legendary directors as F.W. Murnau and Fritz Lang. Leaving Germany for Paris in 1933, her anticipation of WW II saw her relocating to the South of France. Eisner gives her considerable and insightful opinions on classic German Expressionist Films, as several of her admirers drop by during the interview conducted by director Sohrab Shadid-Saless.

Sasha Voronin, a famous singer about to marry supermodel Nathalie, falls victim to John Darow, who attempts to murder him by knocking him out and throwing him into the sea. Sacha is taken in by fishermen, but he has lost his memory and takes the name Samson. Samson's memory begins to awaken when he hears a familiar tune during a circus performance, and begins to sing. Deciding to leave with the circus troupe, he ends up being hired by the director of a radio station, who launches him on the air under the name of "unknown singer". Nathalie, meanwhile married to John, recognizes his voice and wants to find him; Sacha rejects her because he has fallen in love with Maria. John again tries to eliminate Sacha, then attempts to kidnap Maria. After a mad chase, Sacha defeats John, who is arrested by the police.

I Often Think of Hawaii

Semi-documentary film about the everyday life of a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Berlin who lives with her single mother on the outskirts of West Berlin. Her father, a soldier from Puerto Rico, has left the family. With the help of the Hawaiian postcards and records he left behind, the young woman repeatedly dreams herself into an idyllic fantasy world while performing her monotonous household chores. Director Elfie Mikesch visualizes these dream states using stylistic devices reminiscent of advertising films.

Fourteen-year-old Kathi Lehner has been growing up with her father Robert and grandmother Hedwig since the death of her mother. Her neighbor is the elderly coachman Butzbichler and his horse Dublin. When Butzbichler has to go to the hospital after a traffic accident, Dublin is to be slaughtered. Kathi and her grandmother decide to buy the horse. They find a new home for the four-legged friend - at least until they can sell Dublin again. But then everything turns out quite differently.

Meanwhile, Anton makes an effort to find work in Munich, and runs headlong into the silliness and pretensions of the "New German Cinema" movement.

Eine Nacht in Venedig (A Night in Venice) is an operetta in three acts by Johann Strauss II. Its libretto was by F. Zell and Richard Genée based on Le Château Trompette by Eugène Cormon and Richard Genée. The farcical, romantic story involves several cases of mistaken identity. The piece premiered in 1883 in Berlin and then Vienna. It became one of Strauss's three most famous stage works and has been seen in New York, London and elsewhere, and has been adapted for film.
