Idhayakkani

'Idhayakkani' is the story of the kind-hearted Mohan (MGR) whose theory of life is 'equality' and who puts it in practice by sharing equally the income of his estate with his labourers. He has another passion - he wants to serve the country - and for that, he has joined the police force as an officer. He meets a needy girl, Lakshmi, and on the advice of and elderly domestic help, he permits her to stay in his house. Tongues start wagging and Mohan decides to marry the girl. However, his happiness is short-lived. He gets the shock of his life when he comes to know that his wife is involved in the murder of a leading scientist. What is the truth? Did Lakshmi murder the scientist or is she innocent. If so, then who is the culprit? How does Mohan go about finding the truth?

The Story revolves around a poor girl living with widowed mother and siblings. Poverty and the family situation gets her mother to prostitute herself for the welfare of the family. Director Bhagyaraj, treats this subject from the perspective of the girl who sees the wrong of her mother; but in the later teases the thought of right and wrong with the viewers considering the situation in which the mother gets into that. Bhagyaraj, himself plays the neighbour who first falls in love with the girl, later to realize that she is already in a relationship with another.

Maanav is an orphan who was brought up by a Catholic Priest. After completing his M.A. he returns home and finds out that his mentor is dead. He re-locates to Bombay and a man named Gopichand Sharma attempts to steal his luggage. The men become friends - Gopichand eventually changes his lifestyle, decides to be honest. Maanav gets him a job with Hercules Milk Foods. Maanav meets with and falls in love with the daughter of the owner of Hercules Milk Foods, much to the chagrin of her Dad. Then one day Maanav disappears from Gopichand and Kaajal's lives. He re-locates to Simla and it is here that he learns that things have spiraled out of control.
