Wir dürfen es nicht vergessen

A portrait of Antje Kosemund from Hamburg and the history of resistance against the Nazi regime. Her father was arrested by the Gestapo in May 1933, her mother died young and her sister Irma fell victim to the Nazis' "euthanasia" murder program. People, places, streets and buildings appear in the conversation with Antje Kosemund, born in 1928. They all tell their story of communist resistance against National Socialism in Hamburg, of a trail in the Aktion T4 extermination program that leads all the way to Vienna. Kosemund's memories are testimony to a life of resistance. A document against forgetting.

Freedom and Deprivation of Liberty

In a society where freedom is considered the highest good, the question arises as to how the deprivation of liberty is perceived as a punishment. Despite rehabilitative approaches, imprisonment remains the maximum sanction. The principle of liberty becomes significant when the deprivation of freedom is imposed as a penalty—existence remains secured, but any freedom beyond that is taken away. What does the deprivation of liberty feel like? What significance does freedom hold when it is withdrawn? How does the public perceive the deprivation of liberty as a punishment, and what does the need for retribution look like? Is there an understanding of why freedom is being taken? What does freedom mean when one is deprived of it?

The First Photograph

The story of the artist's father, who fled to Hong Kong in the 1970s. The film consists of a series of overlays and montages, initially taken from a documentary photograph of her father and then combined with Google Maps to trace his escape route from China. The artist also used old negatives that she found at home, including overexposed, torn, faded, translucent, etc. The film is an attempt to capture the unseen and unnoticed. It is an attempt to find and restore the unrecorded family history in her father's fading memories and to reflect on the larger historical narrative through the life experience of the individual.

Interferences: Tales from Berlin's Third Landscape

Demolition workers are tearing down Urania 4-10, an office building designed by Werner Düttmann in the 1960s. Meanwhile, experiments in urban coexistence take shape in a tiny but dense jungle in the middle of the city. 'Interferences' is an urban portrait of Berlin at the transition between winter and spring 2024. Revealing the tension between development and spontaneous rewilding, this observational documentary depicts Berlin as a city of ambiguous form, overlapping narratives, and endless material cycles. 'Interferences' implies a disturbance, but also hints at new possible alliances.
