Grenzenlos – Das Jahr 1989

Half a million people have gathered at Alexanderplatz to tell the GDR leadership: We are the people! The demonstrators demanded free elections and the end of the SED dictatorship. Hundreds of thousands of hope, self-confidence, a demand for change. Weeks earlier, the demonstration would have been classified as an anti-state riot. It was a disciplined rebellion, a "peaceful revolution". The film accompanies the politician Gregor Gysi, whose political career began in those days in the fall of 1989, who transformed himself from an eloquent lawyer to a political star. 989 - for almost 17 million GDR citizens, it was a year of boundless freedom. They made history with their courage to disobey. The Wall is suddenly open in the fall. The largest protest rally in the history of the GDR on Alexanderplatz in Berlin on November 4, a milestone in the peaceful revolution, is the starting point for stories from the last year of the GDR.

Among the Palms the Bomb, or: Looking for reflections in the toxic field of plenty

Where the sandy beach of the Salton Sea, the biggest lake in California, begins to crunch harder, it does not even consist of sand any more: Millions of dead fish, plants and insects pile up on the shore to form a highly toxic substance. This is how Derek explains it, a member of a Cahuilla tribe that managed to escape an attempted genocide in the 19th century to the Salton Sea and now sees itself as a protective force for the once flourishing but increasingly deserted area and its outcasts.

Sold City - Teil 1: „Eigentum statt Menschenrecht“

The first part, "Property Instead of Human Rights," deals with the system of converting housing into corporate property. Banks, funds, and international investment capital have been pushing into cities for many years. Hardly any tenant is safe from having their apartment sold. When it comes to making money, they are the only ones who get in the way. Politicians seem to have completely abandoned their duty to provide for their citizens, and social housing construction has been dwindling for decades in favor of private investors, despite billions in subsidies. What is the situation in other large cities such as London or Vienna, which are also surrounded by investor capital?

The Machine Monologues - Part I: The Storm

In this first part of a series of audio-visual installations, video artist Eli Cortiñas shows humanoid robots, avatars, and chatbots engaging in monologs about the troubles of our times. We listen to their thoughts and concerns, wondering where their words come from. Do they originate from our collective consciousness, which inevitably runs through their engines? While scientists debate the potential for consciousness in A.I. and robotics, Cortiñas raises the question: are these beings capable of more humanity than humans? Throughout the work, she challenges technology’s influence on our behavior and its reinforcement of human biases. She offers no easy answers. At the same time, Cortiñas' work speaks to our human ability to share stories and shift narratives toward new paths. Using intricate montage, humor and joy as tools for resistance and critical reflection, she encourages us to rethink the material and virtual reality of our existence and the humanity that underlies it.
