Paralelo 28

Paralelo 28 portrays the workers’ conditions at the world’s biggest salt mine, in the north of México, and tells the story of a one-eyed dog/welder who steals the workers’ lunch. It’s a film interested in the paradox of representation of raw material, vision, landscape, machines, workspaces. This paradox, that we can synthesize as the impossibility of showing a body’s three dimensions through two-dimensional images, maybe points out at raw material and work —at this moment of history where there’s no more distinction between the objects’ presence and images’ representation— as the only proof of the world’s volume and weight. Insulana

A series of eruptions that would transform the Azores archipelago had begun on 27 September 1957. They had started underwater and lasted for thirteen months. Eight days after the first eruption, the island of Faial was completely covered in ash. The consequences were devastating. Sixty years later, Patricia Dauder walked over the solid ash. She travelled to the island of Faial during an artist’s residency at the Arquipélago Centro de Artes Contemporâneas on the island of São Miguel in the Azores. She found herself walking over the roof tiles of the buildings that had once formed a small town and, by 2017, had been exposed by the erosion caused by atmospheric agents. The catastrophe wiped out crops and pastures, although it caused no casualties. The natural forces unleashed by the birth of a new island left the waters contaminated with ashes.

Distance

A daily journey under the capital's ground seen through a microscope. Despite the high numbers of coronavirus contagion, the urban network must continue to function and circulate. The underground air of the subway condenses and allows the invisible virus to be glimpsed among the passengers, the nervous hands that touch everything and nothing at the same time, the noses escaping from the masks. A new body choreography that begins to reveal itself, inserted in a disjointed present that yearns for the functioning of an extinct normality.
