Six years after the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, FUNG uses a ping-pong to symbolise the fact that Hong Kong is merely being pushed from one side to another, leaving one coloniser only to find herself in the arms of another. Decidedly blank and expressionless, men in the video are nothing but transporters of the ping-pong.

This video provides a provocative look at the history of Hong Kong as a British colony in Asia, as constructed by the media. It combines TV commercials, British Government footage and films made during the Japanese occupation in the form of karaoke to evoke a ‘typical’ Hong Kong experience.

As the black ink fills the paper, the strokes lose their distinctiveness, and the text becomes illegible. Eventually, only a black rectangular field remains.
Assignment No. 1: Copying the Preface to the Orchid Pavilion One Thousand Times
Ten-channel installation. Videos capture people of different ages and identities singing the song, 'Happy Birthday,' in different styles. Each video shows the close-up of the face while singing. The scenes switch between solo singing and singing in unison, and ends with an elegant and standard children's choir.
Just for You
This single-channel installation alternates between 20 seconds of images capturing private activities and expressions of people in front of the mirror in washrooms and 10 seconds of black screen. (Installation is intended to be viewed in a venue with walls covered in wallpaper and a video screen hidden behind a double-sided mirror on one of the walls. The reflection of the viewer's face will appear on the mirror whenever the video is faded into a black screen.)
Screen (II)
Three-channel installation. The first video, captured with a stationary camera, depicts the floating and sinking movement of a balloon; the second video moves in conjunction with the legs of the person carrying the balloon; the third video is in black and white and captures the vision through a surveillance camera attached to the hand of the person carrying the balloon.
Air
Two-channel installation. Cameras were attached to both ends of a seesaw in a playground, capturing the blurred scenic views with ambient sound coming from the opposite ends in a continuous cyclical motion of ups and downs. One video captures a perspective facing the sun, while the other has its back to it; 30 minutes footage were recorded between 4pm and 5pm on a sunny, breezy afternoon.
Related Rhythm
Eight-screen installation. An original 15-minute video clip of a street scene at a crossroad was captured and was played on a 25-inch TV screen. One corner of the TV-screened footage was filmed again to produce the 2nd video footage. This re-filming process repeated 7 times using the same focal distance (of the first re-filming's settings), and 8 video footages in 7 generations were produced. The images and sound became more abstract each time. The video installation was first staged in Hangzhou in 1996.
Focal Distance
Ten-channel installation. Captures the actions and sounds of an electric toy (penguins climbing up stairs) from various angles at the same time. Three penguins in different colors walk up the stairs one by one; when a penguin reaches the highest step in the staircase, it then drops onto a roller-coaster track, which brings it back to the beginning to restart the stair-climbing action.
