A road where many unexplained accidents occur. A surveillance camera installed on the road captured the image of a passerby who was not a person.

All that goes before forget is an experimental short film about traumatic memories and flashbacks caused by PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). The film is composed of three fragmented stories that depict a young girl in postwar Norway, a Japanese schoolgirl during World War II, and an androgen person in their twenties in a contemporary domestic setting. These three individuals belong to very different places and eras, and their stories are interwoven with a voiceover—the voice might belong to one of the characters on-screen, or all, or none. Scenes are depicted with close-up images, which alludes to a certain level of significance, as if they were hinges to memories, but the overall narrative remains tantalizingly elusive. Based on personal accounts of surviving trauma, the film uses fiction as a form for speculating about those events that might define a life, while simultaneously defying our ability to narrate them.

A mysterious man tries to solve a series of unsolved murders in which only women's heads are cut off and taken away. Meanwhile, three men who are being pursued by the organization for different reasons happen to enter Jukai on the same day and bump into each other, and the story begins to take a major turn. Can they find the serial killer?

Using a matte box, multiple exposures, and only three rolls of film, Three Cities Winter '19 shows brief but dense portraits of Tokyo, New York and Paris in the same time period approaching the year 2020. While filming the final section in Paris, the camera finally gave out after being rewound dozens of times, leaving the map incomplete. The project was postponed until the artist could return, but going over the footage in 2021 it became clear that they shared a period in time that couldn't be revisited.

Children look up at a carp banner blowing in the wind. This footage was shot by an anonymous person and yet it has become my own memory. Grown up, holding an 8mm camera, I look up at a carp banner just like that day.

One night, two enchanted birds fly in through the window of a sleeping adolescent boy. Perching upon his ear, these magical creatures recount fantastic and peculiar folk tales into the teenager’s mind, as if speaking directly into his dreams. Relating an erotic fable of an Arabian princess who escapes her palace to spend lurid evenings with common men, the birds entice the young man toward his own desire. Their elaborate narrative, which unfolds with ambiguous shifts in genders and protagonists, escalates in intensity until it is suddenly interrupted, just before it reaches the best part of the story.

The bridge, which was built at a tremendous height, has a lot of suicides, and there is a dam nearby, and it is said that it is also a place where precious lives were lost during construction. And at this time, the photographers encounter a mysterious event on the bridge.

A high school student, who retired from club activities, now start thinking about his future. He has no idea what he would like to do, and worries about his future.

A film about the disappearance of something that seemed as though it would always be there: the long-established Maruhachi Yatarazuke pickling company, a shop that bore a key role in the food culture of Yamagata. The Komian Club to which it was attached had supported the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival since 1993, offering a venue for free social interaction. But in April of 2020, it was suddenly announced that the shop and restaurant were shutting down. As the curtain closed on 135 years of business, disappointment spread, along with questions. This film looks at the proprietor who made the painful decision to close the business and at the people who lent support to this space of interaction. It asks what the YIDFF, and what Yamagata itself, meant as experienced through the Komian Club, by filmmakers and audiences from Japan and abroad.

Mysterious creatures lined up in rows. Some are chosen, some are not... You can't help but be immersed in the mysterious images and completed worldview. This universe, depicted with abstract images and music, is sure to bring about various interpretations depending on the viewer.

In the early afternoon of the 11th March 2011, Japan was rocked by a 9.0-magnitude earthquake that caused widespread damage to the country’s eastern coastal region. Just after the earthquake, TV Iwate’s phones had been ringing off the hook with people wanting to know if their families are O.K. As a local broadcasting station, TV Iwate got name lists of evacuees from evacuation centers, took video messages and broadcasted it on their news programs or information programs every day. The length of footages that TV Iwate has shot this region reached approximately 1,850 hours for 10 years. Each victim lives out their life in their way with unresolved grief. Sachiko couldn’t find her husband in the end and took 6 years to accept reality. It was necessary for her to have kept writing countless letters to him. On the other hand, Kayoko and Daisuke couldn’t have a wedding, but they raise twins under the coronavirus crisis. 10 years of progress, we’ll never forget it.

Starting from the beautiful Yokohama at twilight, we will introduce the Bay Area with the silhouette of Mt. Fuji in the background and the sky dyed akane red. As night fell, we flew downtown, looking out over the Keihin industrial area and Tokyo International Airport. The container terminal, Odaiba, and Rainbow Bridge are all beautiful with lights shining on the water. Tokyo Tower is decorated in Christmas colors and Shibuya is illuminated. Shinjuku, Ginza, and Tokyo Station are all full of urban atmosphere. You can enjoy expressive aerial night views of Yokohama and Tokyo, as well as the best visual beauty such as the Tokyo Sky Tree towering over a carpet of light.
