Instead of Husband

The film is starred by the famous actress Yu Shinoda, who plays a married young woman who lives with her husband and father-in-law. The husband is tired of making a living every day, regardless of sex, even though the wife’s dress is very revealing and attractive. The husband was also left unmoved. While the wife sighed, the father-in-law had long coveted the body of the wife. He could only rely on voyeurism every day to comfort him, and the father-in-law was also very distressed. Finally, one day, the father-in-law was hungry. The thirsty young woman stretched out her claws...

Cornelius - Mellow Waves Visuals

Cornelius and his band performed Oct. 8 at the Tokyo International Forum Hall A as part of the Mellow Waves Tour 2018. Going to a Cornelius show isn't just about enjoying live music; it's about taking in a distinctly unique audio and visual experience, including innovative visual effects and lighting. As today's market for live music continues to expand, the importance of visual tricks and twists to accompany live performances has grown as well, but Cornelius -- the solo project of Keigo Oyamada -- has been integrating music and visual effects in his concerts for over a decade and is a pioneer in this regard.

Mu

An experimental art film shot in Tokyo, Japan, ‘Mu’ combines black and white footage with a bespoke poem written by poet Shuya Masuda (inspired in part by the poem ‘Nu’ written by Ryuichi Tamura, ‘Mu’ literally meaning nothing, zero, void) alongside visuals inspired by photographer Daido Moriyama and a textured performance interlude by Japanese rapper Jin Dogg. In its sum, this film creates the physical manifestation of the imagined characters director Taichi Kimura has written in his previous film ‘Lost Youth’ and in his feature currently in development, ‘Neon’.

Vulnerable Histories (A Road Movie)

As racist sentiment and discrimination continue to pull Japanese society apart, artist Koki Tanaka stages a series of conversations between Christian, a half-Swiss, half-Japanese-American man and Woohi, a Japan-born third-generation Korean (zainichi) woman living in Japan. The two young people discuss the disconcerting rise and increased presence of hate speech in the world, investigating not only the cold minutiae of law to reveal the lack of legal repercussions against the agitators, but also the devastating emotional consequences for those who are targeted.

data-verse 1

data-verse is a data-driven audio-visual trilogy by artist and composer Ryoji Ikeda which marks a two-decade culmination in the artist’s research. The trilogy addresses the layered dimensions of our world, from the microscopic, to the human, to the macroscopic. Through Ikeda’s process, massive scientific data sets have been transcribed, converted, transformed, de/re/meta-constructed and orchestrated to visualise and sonify the different dimensions that co-exist in our world between the visible and the invisible. Each variation immerses visitors in the vast data universe in which we live, capturing hidden facets of nature and the vast scientific knowledge underpinning our existence. This large-scale data-driven trilogy is generated by extremely precise computer programming and features a minimalist electronic soundtrack, harmonised with Hollywood-standard, high-definition, 4K DCI video projections of scientific data onto a large screen.

Listen to the voices of the sea

This is an initial experimental short film based on an extract of the diary of Hachiro Sasaki, a former Japanese student at the university of Tokyo who became a Kamikaze during the Pacific War. His diary was published in a collection of writings by Japanese soldiers, under the title Kiké Wadatsumi no Koé (Listen to the Voices from the Sea) in 1949. I have decided to transfer this story into the territory of France so as to contribute to a better mutual understanding of how a man, confronted by the reality of war, while struggling against his own destiny, ends up by accepting it. Today, the memory and humanity of these Japanese soldiers seems to me to require a work of enlightenment and memorial amendment.

Tokyo Girl

A maximum-speed, sonic-visual collage that pierces the spirit of the contemporary zeitgeist through the perspective of a young woman navigating it. Featuring Mako Hiragi’s monologue and on-screen text, the film was produced in January of 2019, and very much situated in this window at the end of the Heisei era and before the commencement of then-nameless Reiwa. Endlessly creative, possibly nauseating, highly addicting, and super-relatable, Tokyo Girl is an intimate stimulus overload.
