Love for Life

He starts to fight: all sentences of the Nazi military justice especially the death sentences against the deserters have to be repealed. At least he succeeded: in 2002, almost 60 years after the end of the war, the death sentences of the Nazi military justice against them are lifted. A tribute to humanity and against war.

Three Trees Don't Make A Forest

For little money, a used kitchen worktop changes its owner and environment. Starting at the older, refurbished middle-class buildings of Prenzlauer Berg, going past the hip ice cream parlours with tussled Hawaiian sunshades, a boy and a woman in her twenties are carrying the newly purchased and slightly dilapidated worktop to the fringes of Berlin. The high summer midday heat makes the sweat roll into their eyes and the noise of the construction sites swallows the last speech fragments as the lines of cars pushes them into ever smaller corridors. Three Trees Don’t Make a Forest subtly describes a classist and neoliberal city architecture which develops a centrifugal force that inevitably pushes the precariously living inhabitants to the outside.

To The Body

TO THE BODY is an ode to resilience, a raw and poetic manifesto of how anxiety and depression is lived in the flesh. From the drama and thriller genre, the short film TO THE BODY tells the story of a woman around her mid 30s who is dealing secretly with anxiety and depression. The entire film is structured in constant loops, reinforced by routine, normal scenarios, close to the single and main character, to denote how centered in her mind she is and how overwhelmingly repetitive her thoughts become. Throughout the film, the main character shows physical symptoms, expressed with contemporary dance gestures, in the search for self-improvement and healing. A call from her body, while feeling and validating every emotion that passes through it, to transcend the mind and come back to the body. This film was made with the main objective of giving shape and body to all the emotions silenced by those people who have suffered and currently suffer from depression or anxiety.

Burning Blue

Pilgyu Shin has a dream: As a gay activist, he wants to enforce the anti-discrimination law in South Korea. In Seoul, he encounters a parallel society in which many queers hide and pretend to be heterosexual. The reason: Christian churches are gathering thousands of members around them in order to threaten the LGBTQ+ community. With their money and influence, they can steer politics. “Burning Blue“ portrays twelve people who stand up against these authorities. It is a battle against time, as they lose more and more members of their community to suicide. Yet dividing barriers keep growing bigger and bigger within their own circle. In a country that stigmatizes minorities and their mental health, the struggle for visibility pushes queer resistance to its limits. The film shines a spotlight on the abuse of power in the church and the growing transphobia in the LGBTQ+ community in South Korea. And it poses the question: Can there ever be a real safe space?
